Conor won the belt 4 months ago. People think he needs to drop the belt just because he's an active fighter. The last champ defended it once a year. Werdum hasn't defended his belt in 9 months.

Because sherdoggers don't let facts get in the way of their thought process.

Because he's not defending it??

He has a fight scheduled at 170??

He will have not defended it for over 12 months after the Diaz 2 fight???

Which answer do you prefer?

What kind of question is this? I've never heard of a healthy champ taking two straight fights at a different weight class, it just clogs the division up.

If that belt I ain't being defended, he needs to let it go.

because he's an active fighter is the right answer

Because all evidence points to him not being able to make the 145lb limit.

I don't think he needs to...Jose Aldo fought like once a year. Now unless he gets beaten so bad in the Diaz rematch where he won't be medically cleared to fight for 4-6 months then that's when the UFC is probably going to force him to drop the title.

They whined that he shouldn't be getting a title shot before he fought Mendes. Then they whined when he had the interim belt that it means nothing. Then he beat Aldo and a few months later they're whining that he should be stripped of the belt. Some people just don't like the guy and will put a lot if energy into not liking him.

Jose Aldo averaged 1.8 title defense per year after he won the belt, he was averaging over 2 till the recent string of injuries, why do people keep spouting this bullshit?

Conor hasn't defended his belt since he won it and is having his second fight since winning the belt without defending it. By the time he defends his belt it will be like a year since he defended it. A healthy champion should have to defend his belt or vacate.

Because he's not defending his fucking belt....?

Is this a trick question? He's holding the division hostage because he's butthurt that Diaz on 11 days notice finished him, and now he's obsessed with proving he's better than a 19-10 LW fighting at 170?

Edgar/Conor makes significantly more sense than a Diaz rematch, as does Aldo/Conor 2. Money can't possibly be an issue when Aldo/McGregor 2 will make a metric shit ton of money as well.

This sums it up pretty well, particularly the last sentence.

opinion discarded lol

Champions barely fight as is, and he's off doing vanity fights at 170. It took Aldo 14 months to fight again after Mendes 2.

He's only making the 145 cut harder for himself as well.

It sucks when champs don't defend their belts. We've seen it tons of times before: Dominic Cruz, GSP, Cain Velasquez, Jose Aldo, etc.

Every time it happens, it keeps other deserving fighters from the opportunity to advance their careers, it stalls the development of the division, and it leaves less high-stakes fights on he docket for the fans.

In all of the above cases, all these shitty side effects were the result of an even shittier reality: injuries and the inability to fight. The only shitty reality keeping Conor from defending his title is$$.

Now I don't blame him, it's good for him and it's good for the UFC. It's just that it's bad for everyone else: fans, other athletes, the sport in general.

He can still make his money WITHOUT keeping others from finding success, so why not just do that rather than keeping two hall of fame level fighters from fighting for the belt?

News flash, when is UFC 200? Add a mandatory one month medical suspension, it may be much more, we're already much farther than your 4 months, possibly more than a year until he defends that belt.

It's the UFC's fault for making that shit happen, giving him 2 consecutive fights out of his weight class is shady and extremely disrespectful to many fighters.
