To you it may equal pain, but to me it equals flavor. But it can be a fine line. Those who don't know what they're doing can create an imbalance, so that the flavour is trumped by the scoville level. For example, when you add chili seeds to a dish, you are adding pure heat. There is no flavour there. So that creates an imbalance. When you remove the seeds and just add the chili flesh, you get that natural chili flavour, of which heat is a part of.
But I get where you're coming from. I used to be like that. All I can say is, now I'm not. Heat equals flavour to me now much more often than not....but sure, sometimes it can be too much.
