Why do people hate Tim Sylvia so much?

Even before the Ray Mercer KO he got so much constant hate. It's always amused me.

I always felt it was either cause he was cuddly fat or the champ at a time when Pride had the (slightly over exaggerated but still) superior Heavyweight division.

Nobody hates him. But he is easy to make fun of. He oozes white trash, he’s become morbidly obese, needed a scooter to get around, and he wore his damn champ belt to the grocery store!

Hey man, ppl need to know who the champ is.

I hated him. He was a play-it-safe fighter at HW, who was winning boring decisions at the weight class which is supposed to be most exciting. Arlovski 3 and Monson were two of the most boring fights ever. But if you went by what he was saying at the time, you'd think he was in Fight of the Nights.

....and I think we are done here!

The Vera fight was god awful wall and stall too

Never disliked him but he sure wasn't a 'face' for the ufc. More like a heel, a tough look and also being bigger than anybody else.

I remembr one fight he had and during the entrance the audience booed and Rogan said 'all Tim sylvia ever wanted was to be loved' or something like that; had me laughing for days.

the "Maine-iac" just wasn't an exciting fighter.
also, along with his considerable length advantage that he leaned on heavily the fans didn't like him more menial reasons, he was bowlegged and goofy looking, had bad tattoos and his fights weren't exactly exciting. to be honest, for me Frank Mir breaking his arm was the most memorable career highlight... along with shitting himself lol

P4P, that phrase is up there with Goldie's "It takes a lot of energy to be a rock star".

He got his title fight with Arlovski off the back of that Assuerio Silva fight too. I never saw it in its entirety, but I recall it was a lot of Sylvia against the cage pitter paddering Silva' s body

I think Dillashaw is the new and improved Tim Sylvia, and by improved I mean:
