Why do Bellator and the PFL (Watching PFL event now) refer to their title fights as "World Championships"?

Their title fights are organization championships, not championships of the entire world, a determination of who is the best in that org, not in the entire world. Maybe the UFC can get away with "world championship", but Bellator and PFL?

Winning those belts its like winning the TNA or AWE belts, cute accolades but everybody knows the only world champ is the one that wins the wwe belt, in this case the UFC belt.

Only boxing have world titles at the same level with the organization boddies.

I guess PFL, ONE, etc need to call them world champs to sell their events but honestly it sounds corny AF because even casual knows they are not "world champs"

Every title is apparently the world title...

Its just wording guy

Isn't it like that with a lot of sports? Like World series champs, when it's just North America playing?
Well to be fair it is World Series champs ( like you said) which isn’t world champs in baseball. There is actually a world champion in baseball. Being Japan of course right now.

Not sure why any of the championships from any fighting org gets to use that world champion moniker without criticism.

Bellator champs are just as good as UFC champs though. Eblen and Nemkov would be favorites against Strickland and Pereira in the betting odds. Just because you an UFC shill doesn't mean there aren't good fighters outside the UFC. They may not be as big as them, but they have the quality. If UFC can say it, then everyone else can.

Because they are not considered regional promotions and they recruit fighters from all over the world.

The same reason why I can make a world title.

You can call a title anything you want, it is just up to others to recognize it. This is literally how every title works in the world regardless if it is from a promotion or sanctioning body.

KOTC probably did the same? Makes the brand sound more special & prestigious. Cage Warriors probably do that, too.

Like miss world & miss universe. Just for the title. Doesn't mean that a chick on earth is hotter than any chick in the universe.

Hot chicks on a flat Earth in another universe???? MMMMM

In boxing world title belts gained credibility by who held the titles. The only reason the same isn't true of Bellator titles is because of the structure of the sport. Many people will give credit to nobody but the UFC champ and that's bad for the sport.
