It looks like Jackson could have finished Punk at any time but chose to toy with him instead pissing off Dana White who said he'd probably never fight inside of the Octagon again because of that. Jackson could have toyed with CM for 2-1/2 rounds and finished him in the 3rd but he didn't appear to even try to finish him. I saw him on top of Punk in mount and it looked like he was looking at his corner for instructions. I was like, "Is this a work? Is he throwing the fight?"

Either way, why don't you think Jackson didn't finish Punk?

The King of Pop can do what he wants.

1) he wanted to showboat
2) he was too afraid that if he went for it he might get caught with something and lose the fight.

He explains it in the last episode of the MMA Hour. He stated that he didn't want to cause long-term damage to CM and also wanted to get his 15 minutes of fame in case he never returns to the UFC.

Afraid to take the risk. If folks just fought with reckless abandon looking for the finish we would see a lot more finished but also a lot more fighters gassed out sucking air. See Conor Mcg vs Nathan Diaz 1. And Conor is a upper level guy and he wasn’t all that reckless.

CM Punk had only been finished 1 time in his whole career before this fight though.

Because he is a journalist and by definition not that bright.

Caught with WHAT exactly. lmao We’re talking about CM Punk here. A gassed beaten up CM Punk nonetheless.

that makes sense!

I agree 100%. Punk had nothing for him, but when interviewed that is what he said. He wanted to assure a win and not get caught with some winged punch coming in.

Punk was done. A couple more solid combos and he would of went down for good.

That's what happens when you're fighting somebody who has no business in there. Usually there is at least some threat from the opponent but here there was none at all.

Not all fights need to end in a finish. Why should he have finished him? Instead, punish him and either...
1. Make him tap to end the misery.
2. Make his corner throw in the towel.
3. Make the referee end the fight "isn't defending himself".

So, if Jackson is to carry even an inch of blame, where was the ref, and the corner?

Knocking Punk out cold with a ko highlight shot would’ve been more fame than fifteen minutes of what he did. He missed his chance then. He would’ve been known as the guy that knocked out CM Punk.

I completely agree. But you can tell from the ceremonial weigh-ins to the end of the fight that Little Mikey wanted some camera time. Dude was dancing around and acting really goofy from the get-go. Only in the UFC can you put on a dominant performance and be fired the same night :)

He didn’t want to gas out trying (he said he decided this after A punch or two landed)

Without saying it, he basically said Cm Punk is tougher than he thought and than everyone thinks

Mike Jackson is half white and he has a black power tattoo. He should get a white power tattoo on his other pec and underneath it, on his upper stomach have the words "United" on it. That would do more for race relations.
