Why did they shutdown Pride?

the fact that UFC performed "due diligence" AFTER the purchase (36)
They sure did make a lot of mistakes back in the day; Dana once said that he'd dumped like $10 million or some other insane amount of money into promoting an event overseas (I think it was in the UK), but the UFC didn't even have a television deal for the event, so Dana basically ended up wasting millions of dollars.

I always they should’ve kept it. Have one organization that fought in a cage and the other in a ring. I really miss the ring aspect of the sport.

Why did UFC shutdown Pride after buying it out? It could have been their asian org. It was so good. I just don't get why anyone messed with it. Everything about Pride was better than UFC.

they only bought pride to get the fighters in the ufc. after that they didnt care cause they would of taken all the stars that would of sold events in asia.

it just like why the ufc shut down strikeforece and wec in the end.

WEC was a UFC owned brand to begin with.

If you remember UFC was supposed to continue to send fighters over to Pride FC they didn't after the Liddell beating. For the next 3 years UFC fighters were second fiddle compared to Pride FC fighters. When the opening came in 2006-2007 ZUFFA went into negotiations and bought Pride FC. Dana said before the deal was made Pride would continue to run in Japan. The purchase went through then Dana claimed Japanese gangsters were involved with the org so ZUFFA shut Pride down making the UFC the top Org. If Pride was still around today UFC would still be considered second fiddle. In the end Dana fabricated story was used cause they never planned on keeping Pride FC running the plan was get rid of all competing orgs. Thats why they are currently in court due to their practices of buying up and dissolving competing orgs.

That's pretty much what I remember too

Yeah, everything was better if you were a weeb who liked Japanese pro-wrestling. Did you even watch back then?

Nope!!! When Chuck Liddell got beaten so badly by Rampage Jackson Dana knew his UFC fighters would all lose in Pride FC. So Dana went to plan 2 by offering to buy Pride FC by telling them ZUFFA will keep it in Japan. When ZUFFA bought Pride Dana claimed a whole bunch of BS like the Japanese Mafia being involved. Dana then shut Pride down and brought over the fighters that had long contracts and the others became free agents.
Is that why Forest Griffin beat Shogun, Leben crushed Silva, Gonzaga nearly killed Cro Cop and Diaz made Gomi tap?

reportedly ufc wanted to continue to run pride shows in japan. they sent a guy down to do it and the yakuzas threatened his life. also ufc claims they bought pride based on false reports of big profits

Pride was crazy though.
I wonder how many ended up in hospital due to how violent the fights were.

PRIDE wouldn't have been on top today, the Japanese were already losing interest in MMA at that point, it's become a very niche sport there.

That is the UFC's MO is why... same thing they did with Strikeforce. Buy to bury. Pretty typical monopoly MO.

He only wanted Prides competition. Same with Strikeforce. Dana’s vision was to put all the best fighters in the world under one umbrella to see who’s the real world’s best.

Why have two separate orgs when it’s frustrating enough just dealing with one? I’m glad they absorbed Pride. It was one of the best decisions for the fighters and building a world stage for MMA.

Fixed fights, steroids, Yakuza, running a company on the opposite side of the world, crazy contracts, excessive spending, etc.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually think before they speak/post
