Of course it's all speculation, but typically, men don't do well when their spouse is more sucessful than they are. Especially if they are in the same field. It seemed to me that their marriage kind of started going south after Evangelista's career began a major downturn while Justino's career was on the upswing. As mentioned by others, marriage is tough enough under the best of circumstances. I imagine underneath it all, there were many factors in play, but I'm guessing that was probably a major part of it.
