Why did Cote not get an immediate rematch back in 08'?

Immediate rematches are bullshit except in unique circumstances, IMO. They deny other deserving fighters a chance (maybe their only chance) at the title. If you lose, you need to get back in line.

I like Cote and I'm a fellow Canadian! He did amazing and it sucks his leg broke but I don't think this warranted an immediate rematch.

Especially when it shows that Silva started to decline here, it wasn't known at the time tho
Cote had solid boxing ( still does) and an iron chin. I don't think Anderson was gonna knock him out at any point in his career

Really? If I remember correctly, the only reason Cote got the shot was that he edged out another overmatched contender that nobody believed in, and the only reason he made it to the third was that nothing happened in the first two.

Nothing against Cote, but it never felt like he belonged there in the first place, and while he wasn't put away, he didn't really show us that he belonged.

At the time, Côte in my mind was "the guy that lost to Ortiz." His fight with Silva was boring. Then he fell down with the knee injury, adding more disappointment to the fight. The thought of a rematch was not exciting.

People didn't care that much about him getting a shot and he was on his way to losing an uneventful fight

Let's not sugar coat it. Cote got a shot because the division sucked back then. That was during the period Anderson was taking LHW fights because there were so few viable contenders in his own division.

It was a pretty boring fight... i don't think anyone wanted to see it again, or thought Cote could ever come close to winning.

Cote looked absolutely fine in that fight. Potentially could have won if not for the injury.

I don't know how this boring thing started, cause when I watched the fight was pretty darn good.

I think people were just used to Anderson destroying guys. Again nothing wrong with that fight (bar the ending).

LOL An earthquake could have potentially happened and destroyed the arena during the fight too. I remember that fight as pretty non-eventful. Cote didn't pressure and since Anderson is a counter-striker, he didn't force the action either.

You don't get a rematch for a title after losing two rounds and blowing your knee out without any contact. Especially with fresh fights like Leites could be made.

Those people are idiots. Cote was Silva's most competitive fight up to that point.
It was Andersen's most competitive fight but it really wasn't competitive. Neither fighter really engaged.

I thought he only got the fight in the first place because Okami got injured.

That's probably why there was no immediate rematch.

It would be like OSP getting a shot at jones again if he got hurt during their fight.

It was nice to see Cote get a shot and he did fine up until the injury, but he didn't do anything to compel a rematch and he was a marginal choice to begin with. I'm a huge Cote fan, but it never crossed my mind that he should get a rematch.

Yea the fans we're screaming for this one for sure.

Nobody cared that he got a title fight in 08 and even less cared if he'd get a rematch.

Exactly my point mate.

Also, seems that Cote didn't come back until May 2010, around the time Anderson fought Maia. Could have easily done him vs Cote instead of Maia, Demian could have been next.

He wasn't supposed to fight Maia. He was suppose to fight Belfort and Belfort got injured. Maia was a late replacement.
