Why did Aldo stop throwing leg kicks?

Korean Zombie checked one and he stopped throwing them almost completely.

I’m sure it is something else but I’ve always looked back and thought that was the fight that he stopped throwing them aggressively. I could be wrong though. I usually am.
Dude had like hematoma on his foot after he kicked in that fight lol

It was actually Conor's oblique leg kick.

Broke his foot badly fighting Korean Zombie... and stopped using it since

Yep

I think he permanently messed up his leg in the motorbike crash. Just a theory though. I don't think he has ever come out and given a real answer for why he stopped throwing so many leg kicks. An injury of some kind would make a lot of sense though.

Maybe that's part of it, but that accident was in 2012, prior to the first Frankie fight and he kicked the fuck out Frankie and Lamas after that. He threw a good amount against Max in the rematch as well. But it certainly makes sense that after 10 plus years there's some injury that stops him from throwing the volume he used to. My guess would be a hip injury of some type. who knows tho.

you are. He threw a a lot against Lamas in the fight right after Zombie.

All the injuries add up. There's a reason most fighters don't stay on top forever.

He was one of the best low kickers in the game. Nobody at 135 or 145 even comes close, but as he got farther in his career, he stopped using them as much. Still don't understand why he stopped. It would be like if Cro Cop or Barboza stopped throwing kicks. He still throws one here and there, but it use to be like 50% of his strikes.
Perhaps he saw what happened to his close friend Anderson Silva, and was like no mas.

it's a great read....and one that shows that he didn't throw as many as we may have thought. They mostly were just all on Faber.

I think it started from Aldo's first fight with Frankie Edgar. Edgar was suffering severely from the kicks and then Edgar thought what the hell, he's suffering and getting battered so he decided to start catching his kicks.
This seemed to really rattle Aldo, as nobody had ever caught his kicks before and he stopped throwing them over the last 2 rounds or so. I never saw him really use his kicks again on the level he used to.

if this is the case he shouldnt fight the little midget
jan, moraes are better options, and definitely not cruz he is too rusty

Its not right to say myth.. but his low kick legend is more or less based on one single fight where he got to kick a guy who was clueless about defending them.

Even then, the lowkick didnt stop faber.

The only thing i can think of is he doesnt want to have an anderson silva moment and snap his shin cuz he threw those things very hard like andy but guys have gotten better at checking and defending maybe his countrymen getting hurt the way he did .. Caused him to edit his game abit..he does still throw them but not the same way or amount....just my theory

He should have just retired after getting koed by conor and then apprantly crying for hours on end. But how many fighters actually retire anymore.

I think he has some hip issue. Kicking they way he does must have put alot of strain over years
