Why can't fighters just ask the ref how much time is left on the clock?

I can't remember this ever happening. It's not against te rules to talk in the cage so how has this never happened?

I just rewatched Lesnar/Mir 2. In the first round when Brock was just hammering him with GnP Frank tried to turn his head all the time looking for the clock to see how muchtime was left. He couldn't because his head was stuck in a bad angle.

Generally fighters take a good 2 seconds to look at the clock all the time. That's enough to get clipped with a good punch.

Why not just ask the ref quickly how much time is left? That way you can look at your opponent100% of the time and still know how much time there's left.

The ref also doesn''t know...

I guess they could...but if you're getting your ass pounded in a turtle position and ask the ref in a panic how much time is left on the clock...that's kind of asking for a stoppage.

Yes, ask quickly, in the middle of a fight.

"Haaamutimeleffff?"

"What?"

"HAAAAMUUUTIIIMELEFFFFFF!!?"

"Keep fighting! Keep fighting!"

Because the ref is officiating the fight, not keeping time.

Also it's not a big enough deal.

The refs can't even do there job as it is, don't give them another task. They're supposed to be paying attention to the fight at all times, so if they had to look away at a clock, imagine how much more shit they would be.

Gus got hit in the face a couple times by DC (and Jones i think) while looking at the clock. It's not THAT big of a deal but im just saying that asking the ref "time?!" would maybe go better.

Or it might come in handy ifyou are in a stale ground position and can't see shit

And then when the ref looks away to check the time you hit your opponent with the steel chair?

The ref does not carry a watch on him, he would have to look up at the big screen, and that would take his focus off the fight. The corner normally yells out "there is 30 seconds to go" etc etc

The referee isn't there to assist the fighters strategically, the ref is there to enforce the rules.

Hrmmms - prolly best left to corner men I would think.

because its not the refs job to keep the time for them, also the ref is supposed to be watching the action, not checking the time for fighters

This is honestly a weird question. You can't ask the ref to assist you lol. He's not there for that, he's there to officiate.

A good corner will keep their fighter informed on the time left.

"Ref how much time is left?"

*ref looks*

*punt your opponent in the balls*

Why is it so important that the fighters need to know the time? They know when the bell rings it's been 5 minutes.

Waste of breath. Have you tried talking while running a 100 meter dash? It's not easy.
Looking at the clock is a lot easier on your cardio.

Distracting the ref while they load the green spew to spray green mist into their opponent's eyes.

Doesn't Reebok have watches for the fighters?
