Why can’t they make the weigh ins on the fight day?

Then have some kind of weight management program for fighters similar to ONE Championship? Isn’t it working over there? Also, why can’t they have fighters fight in the same classes, but increase the weight limit, and add 1 more weight class because the gap from 155 to 170 to 185 is not ideal.

Heavyweight 225+, Light Heavyweight 225, Middleweight 205, Welterweight 195, Junior Welterweight 185, Lightweight 175, Featherweight 165, Bantamweight 155, Flyweight 145.

because fighters are scared of fighting someone close to their weight so they would still cut 60000 lbs and die.

They aren't scared of fighting someone close to their weight. They're scared of fighting someone who cuts 30 pounds and hence isn't their weight.

If they all fought at walk around weight the problem would disappear, but to many people are scared to fight someone close to their size. Even the NCAA's realized weight cutting was pointless and now do same day weigh ins.

If you want fragile, dehydrated guys putting on shitty fights, more power to you!

No. Fighters cut cuz all the other fighters do the same, so if you don't cut, you end up fighting someone a weightclass (or two) bigger than you.

It's true that it could be prevented by making sure no one cuts, by monitoring them throughout the year. But that's probably a costly affair, and it would certainly make for a huge, sudden change of the game. And sudden, drastical changes are difficult to make. It would immediately fuck up all the divisions.

NCAA did it. If they can so can the UFC.

That makes no sense. Because the guy who didn’t cut weight would be fresh and full of cardio. His opponent who cut from a weight class above would be dehydrated and weak and would get man handled, gassed, and ko’d.

Maybe some, but others are clearly trying to game the system, and those are the ones we see doing extremely large weight cuts and often missing weight. I can name at least 10 fighters off the top of my head who should clearly be fighting a weight class above what they are currently at.

Obviously I'm speaking in general terms. Some fighters do benefit (or at least think they do) more from cutting than others.

But generally speaking it's a matter of everyone cutting, and if you don't cut, you're gonna be facing people who are a a weightclass (or even two) bigger than you.

The NCAA has a rigorous weight testing procedure which includes rules on shitting before testing.

They can do this because wrestlers compete week by week and can be constantly monitored. Also they rely on unpaid volunteers who love wrestling.

For the UFC to implement a similar system they’d have to have weight control inspectors traveling the world to check on fighters at least monthly = would end up paying inspectors more than some fighters.

Wouldn't change much, would still have guys cutting weight. Hydration test would be the only way to cut back on dehydration, but more fights would get cancelled

You fail a hydration test, you've been cutting weight and get fined and/or get forced up. Won't happen again.

Fighters are idiots and will dehydrate stupidly = cancelled fights.

As Till proves, some/most are mental midgets.

You realize in the NCAA they don't have mma right? Lets have dehydrated fighters knocking eachother out, that won't end badly at all.
