Why can’t the UFC put top 10 fighters on the same card as their champs?

Given the prevalence of fighters pulling out consistently the question that I have is why the hell can’t the UFC institute a policy of having at least 1 top 10 fighter booked on the same card as their champ. Ideally you have top top 5 fighters and can do the #1 contenders fight the same night as the camp.

But if you do this, you are able to have an emergency opponent who is a top level competitor that has had a full camp if they on of the title fight competitors pulls out in the last few weeks (or days) prior to fight night?

Good idea. Plus it builds the story of the next fight if it's a #1 contender match.

Because that would make way too much sense

Boxing hardly ever has this problem. It’s not the UFc’s fault. It’s the fighters.

It’s not the UFC’s fault that fighters are pulling out. It is the UFC’s fault that given the fact that fighters pull out on a regular basis they have no backup plan in place.

Also can you give me one negative about having a top contender fighting the same night as the title fight in their division?

In the ideal world with no pull outs you could set up the next title fight that night.

Then the rest of the cards will be no-name bums and WMMA.

You make perfect sense, but one contributing factor might be fighters less willing to take fights than before.

Champs won't want to fight the top contender on like 3 days notice ...

Because the UFC keeps making big profits each year no matter which crap they put on. They caught a lucky break with TUF, then exploded, bought out the competition and since then have dominated the mma market. There's no reason for them to make changes, even though those changes make perfect sense. They would if they had to.

well this ive always felt there should be a number 1 contender match on the same card that any championship fight is on.

but the thing is now, they just headline fox cards and what have you with those big fights that should be on a ppv slot.

so back to the old narrative. less watered down cards please.

I agree. It puts both the champ and his next fight on the same schedule. And it's much less disastrous to bump a guy from the contender match and potentially scrap that fight than the alternative.
