I don't get why it's such a hot topic in Wisconsin. It just makes sure a person is A) a legal citizen and able to vote and B) voting in their appropriate district/ward for the local stuff based off the address

What is so wrong with that? And how is it limiting people's right to vote or targeting minorities?

I don't understand it at all. I've always had to have ID to vote here in Canada.

Because when America wants to enact commonsense policies that most other countries in the world have, like not opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants by rewarding them with citizenship, or requiring someone prove they are a citizen before voting, it's racist.

No, the official electoral rolls (aka, the electoral register) takes care of that.

The real purpose of voter ID legislation is to give slack-jaw AM-talk radio fanatics something to freak the fuck out over (ya know, due to the millions upon millions of documented cases of voter fraud on the record).

And now, thanks to WI Republicans, welfare queens and the homeless are guaranteed -by right- a free, State issued, photo ID. Good use of tax dollars right there.

Because Democrats like to label it racist. All it does is prove you should be able to vote just like having a driver's license to be able to drive.
Every person of every race has just as much of an opportunity and capabilities to get a ID.

If some want to say that poor people can't get it and that is racist, well, there are more poor white people in the USA than any other racial group. Maybe make some legislature giving free state ID if you are in poverty.

But the democrats constantly want to label things racist that are not.

Voter ID is not discriminating against anyone. It is not you have to show ID if you X race but not Y.

because poor people will not vote as much as a result that policy

pretty simple fact to grasp

Are you 19 ?

Prior to last election we never needed id to vote.

Im 35. Okay ID may be a stretch, but I always remember having to have voter card or something with name and address, an ID being the easiest.

If you are such a fucking loser that you don't have an ID then you shouldn't vote. Only irresponsible retards live without an ID.

You never needed it , if you hadn't had i think you had to sign something, even now we require id but many things count as id

"The label on a bottle of prescription pills, for example, counts as a piece of identification showing your name, and a personal cheque, or showing an electronic bill from the screen of a mobile device, can both be used to prove an address."

Because its racist to ask people to prove they are legal citizens.

Do you need a gov't issued photo ID to pay your taxes?

This is one area where I agree with right wingers. How hard is it to have some kind of ID. If not having an id means less democrats will vote than maybe theres a few democrats that need to get there shit together.

In 2007 it was mandated that you needed to have a full ID voter vouch for you if you did not have ID and proof of address.

The changed it to all must have ID after it was found out how many violations of vouching occurred.

Also, for what its worth (and i am not suggesting you are against voter ID or are for it) but 87% of canadians were in favor of the mandatory ID rules.

Should take a test before you're allowed to vote

Then again taking a test to vote for a bunch of bozos doesn't sound very appealing

yes, you do. any employer is going to ask for your fucking ID.

But it is a bit different in that payments rarely require your ID because no one is going to pay your shit for you and frankly they don't give a fuck. The IRS wants your money. If an illegal alien pays your taxes for you then the IRS will not give a fuck.

A little bit different than voting for the government of this country

HOLY JESUS FUCK!

They found 94 'illegals' out of 11,446,540 registered FL voters!!!!

That's 0.000821208%!

WON'T SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!?!??!?

How many are we allowed to have before we can care?

In New York City, for example, the Tammany Hall machine was rigging elections all the way back to the Boss Tweed era of the 1850’s. In the 1896 election, New York businessmen like Diamond Jim Brady had to keep their support for William McKinley secret, because they knew Tammany Hall would destroy anyone in the city who supported a Republican Presidential candidate.

In the aftermath of the Civil War, Southern Democrats used poll taxes, grandfather clauses, and other legal maneuvers (not to mention illegal maneuvers involving the Ku Klux Klan) to keep blacks from getting to the polls. Republicans fought back with the Fourteenth Amendment, which among other things makes race-based voting restrictions illegal.

For over half a century, Democrat Machine politics have dominated politics in Chicago. Mayor Richard Daley Sr. is widely credited with helping JFK win a razor-thin Presidential election by mobilizing thousands of dead and non-existant Chicago residents to vote Democrat, and things haven’t changed much since then. In 1982 the US Attorney in Chicago estimated that the party machine manufactured at least 100,000 extra votes in an attempt to defeat Republican gubernatorial candidate James Thompson. Sixty-three people were convicted of election fraud.

After the 1996 Congressional Elections Bob Dornan, a California Repub., lost his seat to a Dem. by only 984 votes. There is evidence to suggest that the number of votes cast by illegal aliens was greater than Dornan’s margin of defeat. Dornan could only conclusively prove that 547 of the votes had come from non-citizens, so the result was allowed to stand.

In 2004 Dem. Christine Gregoire won Washington’s gubernatorial race on a controversial re-count marked by various irregularities. Her defeated Repub. opponent was unable to prove in court that the irregularities had made the difference in the final count.

Also in 2004, Dem Al Franken won a Senate seat in Minnesota on an equally controversial re-count in which twenty-five different pro-Franken precincts mysteriously produced more ballots than registered voters. All the extra ballots counted in the final total.
