Why are gay guys so good looking?

My favorite uncle is gay, my stepdaughter from my first marriage is gay & my wife was bi. So, I've been around a lot of LGBTQ people in my life & have several gay friends. And they run the gamut from really good looking to very average looking. And just as each individual has their own unique personality, they all each have their own unique style & appearance as well. But those individuals that are into fitness and/or fashion are really into those things & if they are, they tend to flaunt it. They definitely want people to notice that they've put the work into their physiques & their money into their wardrobes. Some can be very competitive about it. Probably even more so than their straight counterparts.

I don't know about the "not see women as a challenge", I've known guys that were gay that were not good looking by any means and they had no problem finding other dudes. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. I think it's more a matter of making the most of what you have, let's face it, most of us consider showering the extent of our effort to look presentable. Eating disorders among gay men are only topped statistically by young heterosexual women, the common thread, they are both looking to attract men. So I think it's more a matter of beauty standards.

Guy I ended up pretty pally with at conventions walked past 5 of us girls and now husband, our jaws dropped he was so lovely looking. Quite stocky but in shape stocky, covered in tattoos and his hair was braided all the way down his back. The way the girls looked as he walked past was like something out of a Diet Coke advert. He turned around knowing we were in awe, and the Joey from Friends look he gave was at my husband, none of us. Flippin hilarious move. He's awesome.

My cousin is gay and was always flamboyant and into fashion even as a kid.

I had a friend in college who wasn't gay but dressed flamboyantly to get the chicks. It worked.

And what are people going say, "Nu-uh, straight dudes are hotter!"? A handful who DGAF, but that's 'suspect' and most Sherbros would rather people think them a rapist or murderer than gay.





The OG(ay) subculture from Michelangelo to Mizer and beyond is based around the celebration of men; of male aesthetics, beauty, bodies, bonding, companionship, intimacy, etc. and so a lot of us - though definitely not all - have an obsessive investment in our appearance. I remember reading a study a while back published in the American Journal of Health that found gay dudes were 50% less likely to be obese than straight men. Humorously, lesbians were twice as likely to be as straight women.

Could be selection bias , i.e. people only focus in on the good looking gay guys and then extrapolate it.

Could also be that gay guys tend to be more metrosexual than straight guys, so they are more likely to pay attention to their grooming and appearance.

It's been more the inverse but yeah I've taken to the sweetest people of our community, and especially so over the last couple years. They're incredibly cute, friendly and on point with their hygiene. I'm not big on the flamboyant extrovert personality types but innately feminine features and mannerisms are fine, they can't really help it.

Don't you find them a bit lacking in depth of character........

And I've seen plenty of gay guys and been to gay bars before. Believe me, they aren't all good looking. On average they are like any other group IMO. Except for, as mentioned, many of them do tend to be more into fashion and hairstyles. But dressing nice and having nice hair makes anyone look more attractrive.

Lol. Your husband’s a lucky man. Glad a bunch of girls got to see that happen. Anything that has to do with attraction is always a hoot when women are around.

Well they care about their looks a lot more then an average straight guy. Also steroids are pretty common in the gay party scene, I worked security once at a shirtless gay event at the Palms and the number of guys that are over 230lb and shredded was pretty high.

They seem to be more focussed on aesthetics, and work hard on grooming / workout habits to make it happen. Women are similar to that, very focussed on their appearance because they know it's a main driver of their attractiveness.
