Why Americans cant win International kickboxing

While this is true, our country is called "The United State of America", so you're pretty limited on what to call us. "The United Statesmen" ???
Gringos.

Jokes aside i don't have a problem with calling you american, but i don't agree with the notion that only US citizens are americans.

I'm sure he is but i think his style has inherent flaws and i don't think he'll be a dominant kickboxing champion any time soon.

while I agree with the later part, I don't see any inherently wrong with his style other than not being good enough to be champion. His style is hardly something specific to americans.

Actually that really should be our name or simply the Statesman. Think about it.

It's like saying China of Asia. Yes, you can call them Asians but if you want to be precise you'd call them Chinese. England of Europe. You can call them European or English. I really hate how we took American and made it to be only US. That's like saying all Asians are Chinese. The correct term should've been Statesman but someone, somewhere butchered it and here we are today. All Americans are US and all US are Americans.

Also, you don't say "I'm from America.", you say I'm from the "United States." We should remove "of America" from the name. Literally, makes no difference. As if there are other United States somewhere.

I'd much prefer Chinese-Statesman, African Statesman oppose to Chinese-American or African-American. Don't you think Statesman sounds more badass than Americans?

Statesman = Politician

Already taken. Lets just settle on 'Merican and move on...

good points...

no american has held an international kickboxing belt for any real length of time have they?

What is your definition of an "International kickboxing belt" ?

The above mentioned Urquidez, Smith and Wilson were WKA champs for a long time. They defended their titles in Europe and Asia. At the time that was about as "International" as it got.

USA= PKA
Thailand= Muay Thai
Rest of the world= international

Most notable....K1

I have respect for the PKA guys

Awesome to see the style matchups

You have to take into account that if someone wanted to make a living doing combat sports in America boxing was the primary option over the years and nowadays MMA as well.

PKA Kickboxing had a good run

In the mid 80ties- 90ties It could pay the bills but just barely

Still hard to believe the USA never produced any long term champions

Maurice smith and Dennis Alexio got smoked by international competition

It was a short lived fad unfortunately, not that I like the rule set but it would have been interesting to see how it would have developed had it continued.

I wonder how did kickboxing start in the eastern European countries back in the Cold War?

I found the solution

"U.S American" when talking specifically about those from USA

American = anyone from the americas

North/Central/South american to refer to those from extensive geographical areas.

Yes it was

I think it would be awesome today as PKA style kickboxing has some of the most awesome kickers to ever step in the ring

its kinda like the "greco roman" version of kickboxng

I have no doubt that if "leg kick style" international kickboxers had faced these guys under PKA rules they would be destroyed

OK when I say american I mean USA

No offence to the kickboxers from the "other" parts of america!

Okey, I have today day off and I'm drunk. So there maybe more harash comments today from me.

This about kickboxing.....

US had MMA popularity and Muay Thai popularity before this become popular in Europe.
Muay Thai with it's clinch rules is more suitable for MMA than even European kickboxing, so there grounds for Muay Thai popularity boom in countries, where MMA become popular before many europan countries knew about it.

Modern's kicboxing Holy Pope from my opinion is american Benny Urquidez and I threat him like superstar and in some part, creator of understanding, what modern kickboxing is for whole world.
And most respect from me he earned with his action against Thai fighter in 1977. More impactful than all previous bouts together.

However, rules, yes, are different, but don't forget, that to earn champion tittle or any !!! medal in kicboxing in european level tournaments is harder than in U.S, Canada and Mexico together because concurence is higher.
Europan Union is with more inhabitants than Canada, U.S and Mexico together, but this is not all ....
Add EEZ countries and these Belarus, Ukraine and Russia and we get ~1,5 population more than Canada, US and Mexico together. Concurence is high even for amateurs, undervalued in forums.
MMA first become popular in US, not europe, the same about Muay Thai. There clear, why talent pool for kickboxing in europe is larger and interest too + larger population alone makes more talents ...

In some obstacles, for example, years ago in Europe full contact Low Kick was popular, so some from them are more comfortable with even extremally low kicks, even foot swaps etc stuff.

USA prefers other sports- wrestling in both of its forms; BJJ, because of MMA, it has own Karate style or styles (I am not sure). The boxing is the leading striking combat sport in the States. Muay Thai starts to become more and more popular in USA ,again because of MMA. As far as I know TKD is popular, too. ANd finally MMA is very popular in USA, too. It is hard to have good athletes in so many combat sports.
