Who's to blame? Guts or Griffith?

I hope Berserk is popular enough in general to warrant this discussion. I think it's one of the handful of anime that has broken into the mainstream.


I don't read the comic book. I watched the series from the 90s, and just marathoned the 3 movies.

Who is to blame when the shit hit the fan at the end? Guts or Griffith? Guts for abandoning Griffith when he needed him most or Griffith for sacrificing literally everyone to get his goals?

Griffith. After Guts overheard that convo between Griffith and princess whatshername, it was pretty obvious that Griffith only saw his companions as vehicles to accomplish his goals. He never saw them as equals. The eclipse reinforces that idea. I don't think Guts should have been expected to live a Griffith-centric life. The irony being that he's so hell-bent on revenge now that that's exactly what he's doing.

On a side-note, I think Griffith is gay.

Matt basically nailed it in the first reply. It's 1000% on Griffith. If you think any of what went wrong was Guts' fault either A) the anime adaptions sucked (haven't seen them) or B) you've totally misread the story.

I'd stick to the manga. The new anime is a clunky adaptation that kinda butchers the storyline, also the animation is pretty sad.

The only good part is that Susumu freaking Hirasawa is back composing some dope tracks.
