Sugar Ray Robinson is probably the better choice.

SRR started his career 128-1 and avenged that ONE loss... five times.

I think Ali actually modeled his style based a lot on Robinsons style and movements. It is pretty making how fluidly young Ali moved for a HW.

Yeah Ali was more like a middleweight than a heavyweight.
Movement is everything at HW.

Ali is the most influential combat sports athlete ever, maybe athlete period.

He had 20 title defenses and had 3 years taken away from him in the dead center of his prime 25-28. I don't think he loses the fight of the century to Smokin Joe if he stayed active the whole time, and had it played out that way I think he might have been able to break Jou Louis' record of 25 title defenses.

Ali won title fights (when that meant you were the best in the world, not one of 5 guys claiming it) starting at age 22 and up to age 36, plenty of time at the top and managed that in a pretty talent deep era at HW.

Plus he was a GOAT champion out of the ring and played a significant role in civil rights movement.

I agree Ali was a special human being. He was something to marvel indeed. I just can't imagine the we never probably saw him at his peak in Boxing.
It's insane to think about.

Joe Montana over Tom Brady? Wtf?
For sure. I know the great Lawrence Taylor has said he thinks Montana's better than Brady, and I'm sure there are a huge amount of people who rate Montana the best ever quarterback (though most of them will be aged 40 and up perhaps). He was awesome in the 80s, an incredible clutch performer!
