Who is the better grappler, in your opinion?
Luke, I'd say. Dude attacks from all angles and is hugely opportunistic. Not as dominant a top game, but he's so good at rolling and scrambling and just snatching limbs.
Both are masters at maximizing their leverage
Well said. Good analysis.
They bring different philosophies to the ground game. Rockhold is more scramble oriented and more willing to go to his back to finish a choke he's set up. Jones prefers to maintain position over submission and likes to threaten them in wrestling exchanges to set up other offense unless the opponent is hurt first.
Rockhold has good transitons on top, Jones has good passes as well. They both have some funky setups for subs like the kimura from inverted triangle by Luke and the Americana from crucifix by Jones.
If I had to give the edge I'd have to lean towards the MW champs grappling as we've seen it tested in more areas and has held up against Jacare on the bottom. It's hard to imagine ever seeing the rest of JBJ's ground game being tested considering how many wrestlers have failed to take him down and the few TDs he's given up being short lived.
Ofc. that's as far as examining them separate. If they ever fought in the future Jon would likely hold the advantage. He can dictate where the fight goes(superior clinch, TDs, Luke's TDs being supbar, and stellar TDD) and has a well rounded wrestling arsenal, including TDs that don't give as many opportunities to initiate scrambles.

Rockholds scrambles have to do with the fact he fucking is a LHW.
