I remember back in the day when EastSideBoxing was actually good and Lennox Lewis had just beat Klitschko all the fans where claiming that even though Lewis won the fight, Klitschko won the event. Then it soon became a thing that was used often, like when a winning fighter would lose by default or a smaller fighter would move up and put on a great effort it was a way to still give him praise and say he won without winning.

So I was thinking what MMA fights would you say the loser won the event?

Kimo vs Royce Gracie.

Alexander Gustafson when he fought Jon Jones

Lawler vs Hendricks 1? Idk is that the same, I just came away from that fight convinced Robbie was an elite ww.

Bisping vs Sonnen
Gus vs Jones
Hendricks vs GSP
Rocky vs Apollo
Adonis vs Conlon
300 Spartans vs Persians

Mark hominick vs Aldo.
Sonnen Vs Silva 1.
Gus Vs Jones.
Condit Vs Lawler.

McGregor when he fought Diaz.

Moral victory>Actual win to the record.

Fact was, McGregor won three quarters of the fight. Doesn't matter if Diaz could have chosen to end his life if the ref didn't step in.

Winning is winning.

Well that's because Vitali was leading on the scorecards in that fight and it had to be stopped because of a cut he got,so people say he never lost.

If you can think of any similar MMA fights like that?

Fedor vs Kosakha 1. Technically It should have been NC, But because it was a GP event, They considered it as a loss.

I was going to say Ronda vs Holm but then I remembered she got blasted the entire fight and left on a stretcher.

It took a lot of courage and mental strength to get on that stretcher.

Good call, especially as no one gave him a chance before the fight, what about Gus / Comier?

This is the one I came to say. Probably Sonnen against Silva too

I don't know, I think Anderson won the event as Sonnen came so close and lost by sub which was something he constantly loses to.

However talking about Anderson he won the event when he KO's Bisping. However maybe the Diaz one he lost as he got ridiculed by a WW and Weed > Steroids.

Lol,talking about fighters moving up Penn fighting a oiled GSP or going the distance with Machida was pretty epic.

I'd have it similar to the Gus one, Sonnen wasn't expected to even keep it competitive, and he dominated the fight. He probably lost some of that when he popped though.
I thought Bisping was definitely the winner with the Silva fight. For the first 14 minutes he completely outclassed him, and after the knee, he came out and won round 4 when he was almost out. That was one of the best displays of heart and sheer desire to win I think we'll see all year
