Who was Richie Aprile based on?

Richie was a complete loser who wore Members Only jackets and needed to be killed just about instantly.

He was a world class prick.

I think he was a stone cold psychopath, but he adhered to the old Mafia code. What was really interesting about Janice and Richie's relationship was it showed how Janice was a manipulative bitch just like her mother. In the end of the first season, Livia manipulated Junior to put out a hit on Tony. Janice was putting the seeds into Richie's head to start an coup. She was always telling Richie how Tony was fucking him, and once during sex Janice was saying "it should be you". I actually think the most evil calculating person in the Soprano's was Janice.

EXACTLY!

Good point on Janice doing what Livia did in season 1. Also, Uncle Junior was a two face bitch as well. He was willing to side with Richie if Richie could seal the deal with other Capos. He failed and couldn't sell it. Then of course Richie got killed.

If I was in creative control. What I would do with Richie is, have him do a confrontation with Tony and then he could go in to hiding in Florida or some other place and have Ralphie come in as he did in season 3. Then the show can unfold as it did and what we got to see is:

Tony Sopranos (also Junior) greed, we got to see how he doesn't give a shit about other peoples earning. We had Christopher throwing a tantrum because he had to share one of his jobs with Paulie and Chris expressed his disgust for Toney and of course, Ralph was paying 100 percent the horses vet bills and yet...Toney still wanted his cut without contributing to the bills.

If Richie and Ralphie could have survived, we could have had a storyline with them teaming up with a now disgruntled Christopher and pulled some type internal war within the family and they could have go from there.

When he went into the can, Members Only jackets were the in thing. Honestly every character in the Sopranos was an evil loser who made their living through violence, threats, and intimidation. One of the worst was Tony. Truthfully Richie was screwed over by Tony, Richie did 10 years in the can without ratting anybody out, he was a high ranking member before he was in prison, Tony should have given him more, and he should not have taken Beansie's side. Tony did marginalize Richie.

Richie was a dumb prick who stepped on everyone's toes and was a jerk off who was very quick with the gun.

No one liked him. His crew even hated him. He should've been wacked much much earlier IMO

Also when Tony B got out of prison, Tony S gave him shit tons of work and opportunity as well as a fucking casino to run!!!

Also it should be noted that, Tony B was not even a made man. He never got his button while when Richie went in to prison, he went in as a Capo. That and it was said that the "cursed crew" was originally Richies. Old man DeMo was impressed with Richie that he allowed Richie is own group/crew and of course his brother Jackie became a star and by the time series started, he took over as an acting boss.

Richie was far from a loser. He knew that if someone gives him a light envelope that its the start of a shitty habit and that he had to not let Scatino continue. Naturally, Tony kept undermining him. The only time I agreed with Tony was about the coke thing. It is short sighted in a sense but other than that, I had to take Richies side.

My personal favorite Character was Junior Soprano. He was being two faced, but Tony did play Junior for the fool by giving him the illusion that he was in charge, and letting him take the heat as the head of the family. Tony spoke about loyalty, and honor, but he really didn't care about anyone except himself. Ralph was an interesting case as well, When he killed Tracee the stripper, under the mafia code Tony had no right to hit Ralph. Ralph was a made man and Tracee was not a wife or a Commare of a family member, so technically as repulsive as beating a woman to death is, Tony should not have hit Ralph. You are also 100% right on Pie O My! It actually was never established that Ralph actually caused the fire, according to Joey Pants, Chase would not tell him whether or not Ralph killed the horse so he played the part as if he did not. Tony killed Ralph over the horse with out even knowing if Ralph actually killed the horse. Furthermore Tony cuckolded Ralph by taking Valentina, this was during the time his son was in the hospital.

Although Richie did paralyze Beansie, he did not kill anybody during season two, I saw no evidence that he was quick with a gun.

You are wrong, Richie was a million times more polite to civilians. Gave Scatino two warnings in a very calm, polite but serious manner. Then Dave still showed up at Tonys game despite owing money to Richie.

Richie was shown to be respectful to civilians or people who are not involved in mob activities. Example would be tipping the strippers/prostitutes despite the fact that they were already paid off by Silvio.

Also, he was nice to the teenager worker at the pizza parlor when Beansie was yelling at him and again, very polite with Davey's son.

His crew did not hate him. His crime family did not like him but his crew was good with him. He was shown to be friendly with Donny K and other members. That as well as the fact that Sean and Matt wanted to be in Richies crew because they felt that they would get treated better due to the fact that Donny K already offered them work.

I hated Janice, man. And AJ. Good grief. I felt bad for Ton.

But on Richie. The dude who played him did a few episodes of ELR and he did one terrible Italian accent.
I cannot stand AJ, I cringe every time he's on. Ugh that kid.

Lol Junior was hilarious, his hands getting stuck in the sink was comedy and he was a good pair with Bobby.

Regarding Ralph, I remember that Paulie wanted to kill him because of the phone prank to his mom. He told Tony that if he gets proof then Ralphie is dead. Tony told him otherwise. Actually its here:

Its amazing, Tony forbids Paulie on making the move on Ralph even with confirmation, while Tony kills Ralphie without any proof. That and funny enough, Ralphie died because he pointed out Tony's hypocrisy with the whole "your not a vegetarian, you east beef and sausage by the truck load"

He died because of that!

Dominique Chianase was great as Junior Soprano, I think the funniest scenes in the series were with Junior. Junior, Richie, Phil leotardo and Feech Lamana represented the old school mafia that was quickly disappearing.

Ralph was another fantastic character, people hate Ralph, but the fact that he was hated so much by the viewers shows how good of an Actor Joey Pantiliano is. I think Ralph was supposed to be the Devil Incarnate. There were many references to the song "sympathy For The Devil" in scenes that Ralph were in. When Ralph went to Father Intintola, Father Phil asked him " Were you there when Jesus Chrsit had his moment of doubt and pain?" This is straight from the Rolling Stones song.

You know, the thing with Ralph is, he reminds me of Saul Goodman. Both have the same quick witted remark in a smart ass way.

The thing with the old Mafioso was that they were awesome and amazing at the same time. Its like they all have their own catch phrase. Richies " I am old school" Phils " I did 20 fucking years in the can" and Feech with his stories that come with a temper tantrum.

You have to respect guys like Feech, Richie and Phil. They never ratted on anybody and took their punishment like a man. What pissed me off was how Tony said that Richie became an informant or that he ratted Feech for violating his probation. Really made me dislike Tony because with the progress of the show, he was showing favoritism to Chris than to Tony B and whoever else he felt like.

Another thing about Tony's violent temper is that, he put his hands on Paulie in the first season when he was supposed to kill Pussy if he had a wire. Of course, Paulie said he didn't do it and yet Tony grabbed him and pushed him to the locker. Kind of bullshit that he put his hands on guys that are made.

Tony was a complete hypocritical asshole, but at the same time he was a likable character, so viewers tend to overlook the fact that he was a total scum bag. The Joke Ralph did to Paulie's mother (in real life Aunt) was pay back for the fact that Paulie told Johnny Sac about Ralph's joke (Ginny sac has a 95 pound mole on her ass). The killing of Ralph as well of Richie showed the Soprano temper, and the depression that is prevalent in the Soprano's genetics. Melfi once mentions that Rage is depression turned inward. Janice Killed Richie in an uncontrolled rage, and Tony killed Ralph in an uncontrolled rage. in my opinion the Sopranos is the crowning achievement in American pop culture. There are so many good characters and the writing was phenomenal.

He did show redeeming quality and I bet his depression was because he never had the making of a varsity athlete. But in all seriousness, Tony's love for animals is something that I and many people can sympathize with. Myself, I am a huge fan of cats and dogs and when you go to the comment section of domesticated animal videos, you see lots of comments like animals>>>humans.

So in a way, I see most people being Tony Soprano fans since a person who loves animals and that affection is shown is something most people relate to.

With Richie, I see a lot of myself in Richie, I had some of the shittiest time of my life for almost 30 years and late in my 20s, meditation helped me regain some form of stability in my head because prior to that, life felt so unreal. A sentiment shared by Chris Moletesanti in the beginning of the series in terms of how shitty and defeating it can be.

Funny thing is, the guy that played Gigi was a prick in real life and so they killed his character off in the bathroom. Albert and Donny K ( Richie/Ralph crew) were real life drug dealer and the Matt kid was famous for shooting a police officer.

While I agree with you that the actors were amazing but perhaps they took their roles a bit too seriously...

I am an Animal lover myself, and although I do have a soft spot in my heart for animal lovers, there are many sociopaths who love animals as well. Hitler had a dog named Blonde who he really showed affection to (although he did test the poison he used to commit suicide on Blonde and her puppies).

From what I understand, the Sopranos kind of wrote itself, I have heard there were other actors as well who were so difficult to deal with that they had to kill the character off.

I believe Allie Boy Barese (Tony Darrow) was a connected guy who pled guilty to loansharking in real life. Federico Castelluccio (Furio Giunta) hired real life mobsters to rough up Joe Peci's cousin who borrowed money from him and did not pay it back. Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) was a low level mobster who was arrested 28 times, he learned how to act in prison. Sirico was basically playing himself as Paulie Walnuts. There are actual FBI wiretaps from the DeCalvacante Family, where the guys are discussing how David Chase made the show so realistic that he had to have a made man on the inside giving him information. I believe Chase consulted with many real life mobsters for information on the show. One mobster wrote to Chase telling him how much he enjoyed the show, but mentioned the only unrealistic thing was in season one Tony was wearing shorts at a BBQ. In a later season Carmine Lupertazzi criticized Tony for wearing shorts, he told him "a Don never wears shorts".

He was to eager to have someone wacked. He plotted to have tony killed.

His first instinct was the gun. He was a piece of shit

True about Hitler and I know lots of thugs and bullies who have pets and yet they bully people by making their life hell. That is something I learned as well and in a way I do kind of have distrust issue because you cant point at one aspect of a person say that just because someone loves animal then they are a good to other human beings.

I had no idea about the guy playing Furio doing or a possibility of a made man giving them inside info. If true, it would be like that Chris Moltesanti episode were he is trying to become hack it in to the world of Hollywood.

This was because Janice was putting bullshit in his head and he wasn't really eager. Once he couldn't seal the deal, it looked like things were fizzling out. This was based on his conversation with Junior. He knew he didn't have any backing and so, Junior told him to kind of drop it since he didn't have anyone backing him and then just rats him out to Tony to score points and that was that...

He was a piece of shit, but with an exception to Bobby Bacalieri, and Artie Buco, everyone on the show was a piece of shit including Carmela. Riche was no worse than many of the "likeable " characters such as Tony, Paulie, Syl, and Pussy. They were all stone cold killers who were out for themselves and who would kill anyone who got in their way. One thing about Richie is he did live by the code, where as everyone else only lived by the code when it suited them.

Janice was very manipulative, and if Richie wasn't dating Janice, I don't think this would have ever happened. With that said, Richie brought up the idea to Junior, but he did not act on it.

He was hated by everyone because he stepped on everyone's toes.

He didn't know how to play the game and he needed to go much earlier
