Bo Nickal was running on the idea of not being ready, and needing a few more years to fight higher ranked opponents, next thing you know he's fighting a two division champion from ONE in RDR.

Now my question is, who the hell on Bo's team thought this fight was a good idea? And how much did they bet on RDR?

The Aboluste truth is that the UFC thought he was trash.

The UFC protected Bo Nickal from Pyfer and Petroski do you think they would have given him RdR if they knew he was a beast, The Match-makers are arrogant fuks and think ONE FC is trash backwater Org level wise. They saw De Ridder struggle with Meersheart and thought he is clumsy and flat out trash

They did treat RDR oddly. RDR was a two division ONE champ before the two Malykhin fights. The UFC’s treatment of other org’s champs or former champs is so inconsistent. Jiri got Volkan first, Chandler got Hooker… and then RDR gets Meerschaert for some reason. I think the UFC really underestimated RDR’s ability.

Yup this. They overpriced their asset (Bo) and underpriced the asset from outside their org (RDR) like they have in the past.

They thought it was an easy way to polish up their boy by saying "he beat a double champ!!!" and at the same time put down other orgs while saying "but RDR's in a different world now... now he is facing the FUTURE OF THE DIVISION and it ain't the small leagues!!"

In other words, UFC are arrogant morons that believe their own hype. Which is hilarious because Bo has clearly not been what they've been advertising for multiple fights in a row now.

Are you sure?

It could just as easily be they were trying to put RDR over by having him beat a guy like Bo. They had him fight Holland before this. Two known names back to back.

No I can't be sure.

But it definitely fits the UFC's MO and they definitely were pouring promotional material enough into Bo that even the President of the US was repeating their marketing points about him being the future champ.

I'm just saying. They gave RDR a pretty favorable path.

GM3, Holland, Bo, Rob.

All winnable fights. All known or semi-known (GM3) names.

RDR hadn't really fought a true contender by that point, and his ONE career ended with back-to-back title losses against a Russian that hadn't fought in the UFC. They probably thought it would be an easy fight.

In reality, that Russian, Malykhin, was almost certainly juiced to the absolute gills with PEDs. This is just more proof that massive PED abuse makes a difference in MMA, and more evidence as to why Jon Jones should be banned from GOAT discussions. It's shameful that the UFC basically gave him a free license to test positive for Turinabol for years.

So ya, despite those losses, RDR turned out to be a much better fighter than most would have predicted.

That's actually a really great point, TS.

Another question I would add is, why would the ufc give it the OK?

Bo Nickal thought RDR would be an easy mark. RDR hadn't fought great competition yet in the UFC, and before that he was beaten twice by a non-UFC fighter.

In hindsight, it's obvious that RDR's dirty Russian opponent was almost certainly juiced to the gills. RDR is able to pass UFC drug tests, whereas the guy that beat him twice would definitely not able to fight in the UFC.

This is just more evidence that PEDs matter and should discredit the legacy of any fighter caught using them.

I want to see that Russian that beat RDR in the UFC.

Wonder why he's not.

(No proof of roids and there's ways around that)

lol dude proof not needed here. That guy ain't fighting in the UFC.

And if he does come to the UFC, he probably ends up looking terrible. Just look at Mirko Cro Cop. I'm a huge Cro Cop fan, but there's a reason he looked so bad in the UFC. And it's the same reason why he still looks jacked at 50 -- hint, he's not natty.

Malykhin would get Cro Cop'd if he came to the UFC.
