Tragic story but incredible boxer. 27-0 with all fights ending in KO. He was a devastating puncher and most of his fights never went past the first RD. He had a lot of demons but that doesnt take away from the fact that he was one of the forgotten greats.

Edwin Valero (December 3, 1981 – April 19, 2010) was a Venezuelan professional boxer. He was an undefeated two-weight world champion who held the WBAsuper featherweight and WBClightweight titles. Asouthpaw known for his highly aggressive style and exceptional punching power, Valero remains the only champion in the 30-year history of the WBC to have won every fight in his career by knockout. In 2010, Valero committed suicide in jail after being arrested on suspicion of killing his wife.

Dude was really talented and super exciting to watch. Wish we could have seen him tested more, though I think a guy like Pac would have been a bridge too far.

Bully POS coward that couldn't do the time.

He made me wish Hell was a real thing.

Expect he really wasn't a great?

He beat up mostly part time garbage men. He might have been something, but we'll never know.

remember him???

he was alive and fighting only a few years ago

you make it sound like he was from the 30's or something

Over-hyped, over-protected & very, very far from what anyone who didn't start watching boxing in 2015 would term "great". At lightweight, JMM would've kicked his arse for fun.

What'd he fight, two genuine opponents (Mosquera & DeMarco)?

Also, he's better remembered as someone mercilessly exploited by his management & promoters (he shouldn't have been in the fucking ring at all, after suffering that brain injury right at the start of his career) & the horrific upshot of that exploitation.

He was a super talent, although I think his talents were steadily declining in the last few years of his career as he became more of a brawler with his BRUTAL two handed power. At one point he was a great boxer-puncher, he had the skill but fell a bit too in love with his power IMO.

But god damn, what a waste. Before the motorcycle accident derailed him, he was famous for coming into gyms and just destroying their best guys with ease. You have to wonder if CTE played a factor in his eventual blow-up, as the motorcycle accident was very severe and of course compounded with all the blows he took in sparring and fighting.

It's a real shame, he robbed the boxing world of an incredibly exciting, once in a lifetime puncher.

He was the one that gave DLH the black eye before his fight with Pacman if memory serves. Just a little useless trivia for the gang.

There where always complaints about Valero's sparring

He either went too hard or gassed out, according to Mikey Garcia he was asked to spar Valero very early in his career because of sparring partners refusing to work with Valero

When he was helping Morales he was asked to take it easy

You don't think brain damage can cause mental illness or you think he was just born that way?
I don't know. He was what he was. He murdered his beautiful young wife, abused her several times and assaulted her family. The world is a better off without him.

I always felt like people made too much of those stories. Its sparring, you're not supposed to be going full on like you're fighting for a championship. It always sounded to me like Valero didn't understand that.
