Is it not true or is the interpretation too extreme? What else do you call it if a group of people has rules that require you to get arrested and be in a violent confrontation if you want to climb up the ladder? Seems pretty straightforward.

First, I haven't seen you substantiate that. Second, it's a stupid analogy. If they expect you to get arrested for a peaceful protest that wouldn't be thuggish. Third, here is a headline in the wake of Portland:

Not sure how much experience you have with legitimate gangs and gang members over there in Belgium, but real gang members don't give a damn what the police think. That's one way to phrase it. A more accurate way to phrase it would be, "A group of guys that attend rallies and speeches and then defend themselves when they are confronted by masked Antifa."

The vast majority of times in which there has been violence assosciated with Proud Boys, it has been the Proud Boys attending a right leaning rally or speech, and Antifa protesting and provoking violence.
