LMFAO I think her name was supposed to be Kim but I also remember her as "Big Momma" for some reason. She was like proto-Abobo from Double Dragon.

I remember playing that as a little kid and somehow I managed to knock down that big lady with just punches and she fucked off and left the screen by walking down through the bottom and I lost when time ran out and there was nobody to fight. Really weird glitch.

Yeah I remember glitches like that happening occasionally in the arcade version more than home console. In the Double Dragon arcade version, you could exploit it in the final stage by letting abobo throw you up to the ledge and you could beat the boss guy's ass while he couldn't hit you.

But in hindsight, Renegade and Double Dragon had realistic touches like striking from the clinch and finishing opponents with mounted GnP. They phased that kind of stuff out of later fighting games.

I viewed Capcom as cream of the cream maybe because of superior boxart and in game art.

I think I would have to give it to Capcom even if the only game they ever made was Aliens vs. Predator. That game is a masterpiece.

Konami somehow got 10 votes out of this
<{vega}>

I mean LOVE them for Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Zone of the Enders, Bomberman, Contra and a bit for PES

But BeU wise they get murdered on the spot, that was Capcom's kingdom lol

Not sure would even rank Konami at #2 tbh, Sega have Street of Rage, Yakuza and Golden Axe

I think Konami for late 80s and very early 90s. Capcom took over around mid 90s when graphics got a little better. The AVP game is one of the best 2d scroller fight games. I sort of miss those games at the arcade like golden axe where you pay with randoms

Technos was better at Beat Em Ups too.

In arcade, it's Konami.

In console its Capcom.

Sega's Guardian Heroes was a great one too and there's also Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder.

Capcom and it is not close for me. Capcom made better beat em ups not only than Konami, but also than Technos or Sega. In my opinion, Capcom beat em ups are the absolute best of the genre.

I think I'm gonna go Capcom but with a caveat. I think Konami had the more memorable games and franchises but the Capcom games played better and were more fun.

TMNT and X-Men are super nostalgic for me but if you play them now, they are honestly aren't that great. Very good graphics and fun but the combat is just not that exciting or impactful. Compare that to Final Fight where every hit is crunchy and satisfying. Same goes for AvP.

Those konami games were quarter guzzlers. There is no "getting gud" with them, you pay to keep going.

Capcom games you can last out with 1 guy.

Guardian Heroes was incredible, probably my fav 2D BeU ever

But i did'nt counted it for Sega because they was just publishers there, to do the game were Treasure people
Treasure was an incredible SH, them and Clover Studio are 2 relatively obscure teams that did disproportionate amount of my fav games lol

For Golden Axe (like FF, SoR etc) i mentioned them once meaning whole saga, since most of best BeU had sequels

For Sega that i did'nt mentioned before we can add also Comix Zone and Altered Beast even if i ignored both because they're pure 2D rather than classical 8-way directions BeU like Final Fight

You're right. I forgot about Guardian Heroes being developed by Treasure. Still, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder was really good and it's a shame that it wasn't released on a home console.

Comix Zone...maybe? Altered Beast, nah.

Either way, they're all better than most of Konami's Beat-em-ups, lol. Most of them were shallow even back then.

If you loved Golden Axe you should give a chance (if you already did'nt) to Dragon's Crown by Vanillaware
Basically their tribute to Golden Axe done with their style, and was awesome... too bad they never expanded with DLC adding new characters/stages/bosses, huge missed chance imho (specially considering it sold very well)

Comix Zone and Altered Beast were trashy to me (CZ did'nt liked the style, AB was just bad), but thought may be added too anyway because i see other mediocre stuff being mentioned to make number so why not lol

Another one for Sega that i forgot to mention wich was actually decent (terrible art style, but fun gameplay) was Dynamite Deka, some obscure bizzarre Die Hard game lmao

Ever for Sega should be fair consider that Shenmue fighting parts were pure BeU too

Actually, Dragon's Crown is more of a spiritual sequel to Capcom's Dungeons and Dragon's beat-em-up games. Vanillaware's president actually worked on D&D Tower of Doom IIRC. It really reminded me of Shadow Over Mystara which I've played a ton and can 1CC with any character.

Lol, I forgot about Dynamite Deka. It was ok I guess.

An arcade near me had the 6 player XMen cabinet AND the Simpsons AND both TMNT games.
