Depends what your criteria is. If you're allowing anyone under HW to be the best MMA of all time, which would objectively be based on wins, then you are imposing a handicap for the smaller fighters. Why shouldn't Machida get a handicap for having elite skill in an average body. If Jon Jones had Machida's physical attributes he wouldn't have sniffed the UFC.
even then, I feel like there are fighters more well rounded than Machida in those domains. Bj Penn lasted 3 rounds with him despite being a lw...I think thats more impressive.

Imo Stipe deserves a spot on this list, not saying he’s the goat but he should have a spot in the list

A younger Machida, and no one ever said BJ wasn't a great fighter. But to reiterate my point, if lower weight fighters can be given a handicap as far as the best fighter of all time, why can't highly skilled fighters who were given an average physique be given a handicap as well? Overcoming a weight disadvantage that you were born with is the same as overcoming a physical disadvantage such as height and reach. People try to say that doesn't matter because the weight is the same but it's simply not true. There's a reason fighters with the physique of Igor Vovchanchyn aren't dominating LHW anymore.

No way Stipe is on the list. It's like saying Chuck Liddell should be on the list.

He fought 2 opponents in his last 5 fights with 2 losses.

Huh? Stipe is the goat heavyweight under the unified rules with an athletic commission and drug testing. Name me a better heavyweight who fought the majority of their career under these rules. Could also argue Igor Vovchanchyn should be listed due to his nhb career as he was the goat of that era.

The names on the poll are the greatest fighters in each of the 8 men’s divisions. Stipe isn’t the greatest HW of all time. Maybe he greatest HW under that particular ruleset, but whywould we value those rules over rules that allowed soccer kicks to the head, stomps to the head, knees to the head of a grounded opponent, and a 10 minute first round. There’s only one representative from each weight class, and Stipe doesn’t make the cut.

IMO it’s harder to win under Stipe’s ruleset than Fedors. No steroids, an athletic commission overseeing your fights, and statistically there are more stoppages under the unified rules than prides rules. But hey, going by your logic, guys like Igor and Ken Shamrock should be the goat because they fought under the most dangerous ruleset of all, no rules

Don’t be silly.

There are 8 names on this list, because each weight class has a fighter that stands above all others. Stipe isn’t that guy at HW. Should we add extra people at other weight classes to the poll too? They aren’t GOATs, so why do it?

You think it’s easier fighting under PRIDE rules, sometimes more than once a night, with 10 minute first rounds? Fedor fought under the crazy RINGS rules, he fought under PRIDE rules, he fought under unified rules in a ring, and unified rules in a cage.

Stipe is a good fighter, but he can take a seat. We’re talking about GOATs here.

Lmao you can’t be serious. Crazy rings rules that didn’t allow ground and pound to the head? Pride rules that banned elbows on the ground? Fedors record wasn’t very good in the cage under unified rules. Granted he was old by then, but still. Hell Strikeforce didn’t even allow elbows on the ground when Fedor fought there.

Voted Fedor. That streak at HW will probably never be eclipsed unless they fixed the fights. Prime Fedor also is the most likely to beat every other human in MMA history.

Anyway, Cruz shouldn't be on as a choice. He was great but not in the same league as all the rest. IMHO.

If people were honest, GSP is probably the GOAT. But boy if we could’ve seen Anderson vs Jones right after Jones beat Machida. That would’ve been the greatest matchup that could have ever been made

Come on bro, other than Nog (x2) and Mirko, who did Fedor beat when he was champ?
