My personal pick for GOAT is Fedor, who like the Klitchko's is not an American. I'm curious how you can suggest that the reason the Klitschko's aren't popular in America is because they're not American (ie being American is more important than race), but at the same time suggest the reason Fedor is popular in America is because he is white (suddenly race is more important than being American). Make up your mind, is nationality or race more important?

I can't help but notice that GSP isn't American either - presumably that means he's also getting the Klitchko treatment from American fans?

And Hughes finished off Royce Gracie on the ground, who seems to have had some BJJ training. Are you sure being finished by him suggests a complete lack of ground skills?

As for Marciano, there'd already been several dominant black champions (including Joe Louis, who I'd still say was the greatest HW boxer of all time). If race was important to popularity as you suggest, Marciano's undefeated record should be more than enough to have him crowned the HW boxing GOAT, and yet no one does that. Perhaps race isn't as important in this as you think?
Don't put words in my mouth and don't play with words! I said Klitchkos aren't popular in the US because they aren't American, they don't fight in the US and their style is boring.
I never said Fedor was popular in the US. No one knows who he is outside of these forums! My issue is with people on these forums and not with "Americans" since I'm American myself! Do you think the average American cares about Fedor or Klitchko brothers???? Of course not. It's the majority of people on these forums and MMA writers who do their best trying to put Fedor or GSP ahead of the best fighter we've ever seen so far in Anderson Silva when both of these guys shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Silva or Jones!

Anderson lost to (got tapped out) by cans, one who had a 4-7 record, has almost double digit losses, has been busted for PED’s twice. Dude is a complete fraud lol
Again, STFU! Same can be said about Gaysp. He got tapped by a wrestler who never tapped anyone else before and got knocked out by a lightweight!!! The guy was fighting the Hardys of the world lol when Anderson was matrixing former light heavyweight champions of the UFC! one is a master striker who was so damn fun to watch and the other one is a lay and pray type of fighter! You be the judge!

elephant man is the goat weird looking guy

GSP for me. He won the belt in 2006 and still has a belt in 2017 and that's not even mentioning that the belt is at a higher weight class. Not even Fedor was on top for that long.
Fedor was on top longer actually. If you measure their actual time on top.

GSP has the longest point from first winning a title but that is because he was given a gift title shot against Bisping, a champion that he handpicked as the easiest fight.

Fedor was 10-1 when he got to the big show, PRIDE.

GSP debuted in the UFC with a 5-0 record.

Some of those "cans" that people try to discredit Fedor with are the guys he had to beat on his way up. GSP got a quicker trip to the big dance.

Fedor did not lose from 2000 to 2010. He didn't get the belt from Nog until 2003 but he could have been the best fighter in the world before that for all we know.

Fedor was the #1 ranked fighter in the world for 7 years.

GSP was WW champ from 2007 to 2013 so 6 or 7 years from him. I am happy he beat Bisping but it's not like GSP has been champ for 11 years. He retired for 4 years and got a gift title shot against a champion that he handpicked as weak and easy.

I am happy for GSP but Fedor was on top longer.

Fedor didn't even lose for 10 years while fighting far more often and against far more dangerous and bigger opponents.

I voted Fedor over Jones.

But lol that Jones isn’t second. Roids or not, he smashes every lhw and a good portion of hw’s.

Well I don't think it's fair to only count GSP from when he won the belt but not count Fedor. Fedor won the Pride belt in 2003 and got beat by Werdum in 2010, so he had 7 years. GSP won the belt in 2006 and retired with the belt in 2013 so that's also 7 years, but there's also the fact that GSP now has returned to win the belt in 2017 against a MW who used to be a LHW.

Said for the longest time that it was Silva, then Jones.

Both of them are out in my book for the obvious reasons. So to me, it's interchangeable between GSP and Fedor, and nobody else comes close.

Jones is possibly bigger than Fedor yet fought LHW. If DC fights a clean Jones and wins who's the goat?

The Goat is a pub down the road from mine
It is a place for drunken discussion

Voted Fedor myself, if GSP defends that MW belt even once,as much as it pains me...he moves into 1# GOAT

I feel that GSP has a lot more left in his career to improve his resume with his next few fights

Fedor on the other hand is in the Bellator heavyweight tournament, I am cheering for him to win, but I gotta admit with his recent lack of success it is gonna be a big hill for him to climb, but I been a Fedor fan for so long I can't turn my back on him now, win or lose

Be awesome for him(Fedor) to win it all, would love to read the comments here on sherdog

GSP - he was never gifted non ranked fighters when he was champ

Fedor is the GOAT non-UFC fighter ever

Hughes tapped 11 guys before the GSP fight. Eat shit you dumbass.

Melvin Guillard got 17 votes so far LMAO.

this thread is obviously for the #2 GOAT (and therefore not technically the GOAT) as McGregor is the OFFICIAL GOAT

Jones is possibly the most rawly gifted fighter I've ever seen. I voted GSP but plenty of us understand how bad ass Bones is. It sucks that he is going to spend years of his career suspended.
