There’s a level to this. Sure gsp is a great mma wrestler but got outwrestled by hendricks who’s a amazing college wrestler but both cejudo(gold medalists) and Romero(silver medalist) are above everyone in ufc
Not quite. Just because they are Olympic level doesnt mean their wrestling is a higher level than NCAA for mma. Olympic wrestling doesnt transition as well to mma as NCAA does. The rules for NCAA condition wrestlers better for mma because it focuses more on control and ground work, various different take down techniques and the refs allow continuous grappling without standing the wrestlers up, there is far more ground work in Collegiate which obviously works better for mma. The Olympics have a different scoring system where a take down happens, back control and point is scored and they re start, also if there is not much action the match gets stood up right away. In some Olympic, greco roman there are no leg attacks, trips or shooting in.
Romero is a very high level Olympic wrestler but he didnt transition as well to mma as others. He was out wrestled by Jacare and Brunson. The best mma wrestlers mostly come from NCAA. Now that doesnt mean NCAA guys would go Olympic and do well, because under those rule sets they would get beat.....but for mma it transitions better.
