Emmett was unranked before facing Lamas, now he's #4 before facing Stephens. Has anyone made such a huge jump before between fights?

Rankings weren't around back then but maybe JDS?

Brock Lesnar got a title shot after 1 win against Heath Herring.

What was Volkan at after he wrecked Cirkunov?

JDS went on a 7 fight streak in the UFC before a title eliminator. That doesn't seem like a fast track to the top to me.

Bethe Correia was ranked #5 for beating Baszler, Duke and Kenzie, who have a combined UFC record of 1-7. She's still ranked #11 despite winning only one fight since, and it was against Jessica Eye (2-5 in the UFC)

According to Sherdog rankings, JDS was unranked before he fought werdum (#6). After the fight he jumped up to #8 and Werdum #9.
But get this....of the top 7, only 1 fighter was in the UFC (Nogueira).<45>
8. Junior dos Santos (7-1-0)
After causing a stir in the blogosphere with some nasty mittwork leading up to UFC 90, Junior dos Santos used Fabricio Werdum's face as a focus mitt in one of the year's bigger upsets. Whether or not the young protégé of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is legitimately one of the best heavyweights in the world remains to be seen, but for now, no one can take his nasty knockout of Werdum away from him.

9. Fabricio Werdum (11-4-1)
Perhaps there's no sport with liver underdogs than MMA. Unfortunately, Werdum didn't heed history, and he had his UFC title hopes splattered courtesy of a brutal uppercut from fellow Brazilian Junior dos Santos. Instead of awaiting the winner of the UFC's forthcoming heavyweight tournament, Werdum has been knocked down the ladder of contention.

GSP was unranked before Bisping'

Became #1 MW
#2 p4p

I think Gaethje got to like number 5 after beating Johnson.

Also, not the same thing, but Poirier has managed to climb to five without any top 10 wins.

He beat the number one contender in his debut.

So he'd have been ranked at number 2 in the UFC

Gaethje went from unranked to #5 after beating Johnson, someone already mentioned.

Alvarez debuted in the UFC with a loss to Cerrone and became ranked #9.

But in Emmett's case, knocking out the #3 ranked fighter on short notice as a huge underdog (although looking back, only +160 so it was huge in my eyes), that's a good reason to move up from unranked to 4th.

Rankings don't matter

is this on sherdog rankings, I don't count ufc rankings

Sherdog rankings: Brock jumped from being unranked to being #5 after beating Randy

Sokodjou jumped to #5 after beating Arona. He was unranked even after beating Nog. I guess they thought it was a fluke.
Little did they know you can fluke twice in a row.

Couldn't find the sherdog rankings but on another site Matt Serra was unranked and jumped directly to #1 when he beat GSP
