Herb Dean is in Dana's pockets. He lets Weidman stay mounted and gnp for 1.5 minutes. He then stopped Chad Mendes after like two punches.

He's always there for the important fights go ensure the results Dana wants.

Herb Dean refs thousands of fights per year with like 5 or so controversial calls that I can think of. If I was getting my head bounced off the canvas, I would want him in there. I would be more worried about Big John. He gave Bobby Green a TKO victory over James Krause after Green kicked him in the cup for the third time in the fight.

That's as fucking questionable as it gets.

Except Herb's controversial stoppages all come up in big money main event fights that usually favor the popular vote. He stopped McMann super early, but then allowed Ronda to get absolutely mauled unconscious (well I kinda thank him for that), stopped Mendes after he turtled with 3 sec left against Mac, and then allowed Weidman to get massacred by Luke. I'm not crying foul, but the fact he got the main slot for another McGregor fight is an odd coincidence IMO.

When did Herb become a Sherdog pariah? Because he didn't stop the Silva/Bisping fight at the end of Round 3? BJM is the best in the business, but I'd say Herb is probably second. Rosenthal would be my #2 but I'm not sure what his status is after the drug bust thing.

when he was called a good ref by dana followed by being the ref when fedor lost to hendo. once that happened all bets were off and every decision he made was met with bashing.
