Who deserves more criticism for inactivity over past several years : Stipe or Jones?

Stipe by far. Dude sits out mumbles and cries to get the fight he wants!

Jones has mental and drug problems

They cant force him to fight Aspinall. They can only strip him if he doesnt. I think if they told him he had to fight Tom,he would just retire,or ask for an astronomical amount.
 
I dont really blame either of them.

They dont HAVE TO fight if they dont want to. Despite Bones being a despicable cheater,he defended his title and fought many top guys. He got sick of it,esp since there wasnt any big money fights at LHW after DC moved up. Jones ran out of compelling challengers as all the big names basically retired before the next batch of guys got to develop their div. Jones also wanted to bulk to move up to HW.

Stipe lost his title,and they werent giving him an instant rematch,so he just didnt feel like fighting anymore. Wasnt motivated to. Stipe really couldnt be arsed. He doesnt need the money,doesnt have a good relationship with Dana. So he will only come back for title matches.

The problem I have is them just TAKING what guys have been working for the whole time they been away,when they come back. UFC letting them do that.


UFC just gave these guys whatever they wanted on name value alone. There's no incentive against their inactivity in this situation. It def sucks for the fans,and the contenders trying to become champion though. Thats the part thats just plain bad for the sport.

Stipe went inactive after losing his belt. Jones gave up his belt to go inactive.

Jones is now holding up the division to fight a guy who effectively retired. Stip could have fought Tom and then fought Jones on return with a win. Instead they both are choosing to fight each other and then retire.

Jones can fight Stipe, but it shouldn't be for the HW title. They should strip him, make Aspinall undisputed and then those two can fight for legacy without the belt if they choose.
 
Stipe spends his time saving people from burning buildings when he isn't fighting. Jon is doing cycles of PEDs, hitting the mother of his children, cheating on the mother of his kids, getting drunk and snorting coke, alledgedly sexually assaulting waitresses, and making roads unsafe when he isn't fighting...

Hmmm ... Man, very tough choice!!!! Can you help me make a decision @Luthien

Fighters fight for what? Cos of the money.

If they dont need the money,they dont need to fight.

If they wanna be the champ they SHOULD need to fight,but if they already WERE the champ,the motivation is less,esp since they can seemingly get a title shot just by asking for one if they wait long enough. That is where the fault lies with the UFC. It's actually HARDER for Stipe to fight instead of just wait for them to offer him a title shot for nothing. I dont BLAME him for doing that though. If they let me do that, I would do that. What is the motivation for Stipe to take a non title fight at this point?
 
Jon is fucked up. Stipe is literally just sitting out waiting. I'm fairly confident Jon's last hiatus was mandated by a commission.

Jones obviously. his idiocy is why big chunks of his career he was sitting on his ass allowing his arch nemesis Cormier to not only become a multiple time defending champion, he even surpassed Jones by becoming UFC HW champion FIRST. which is why we're at where we're at now. Jones has to at least equal DC in defenses otherwise this motherfucker won't be able to sleep at night. not that he would anyway with all the cocaine.

Yes! We have a clear answer as to why Saint Jones wants to give Stipe a charitable fight so that Stipe can retire with more money and wants to fight no other- Jon is the patron saint of firefighters! He admires stipe's saint-like firefighting!

Stipe had wars with DC and suffered a brutal KO from Ngannou which he should definitely have taken time off for.

Meanwhile Jones was most likely serving secret suspensions and taking time off fighting to spend more time on his drugs and strippers hobby.

It's hurting the sport to hold belts for years of inactivity.

But if you asked me to be the HW ufc champion without fighting, I'd do it too.

It's the UFC who made the stupid decision, not the fighters benefiting from it.

Stipe is old and got KO'D multiple times, I give him more of a pass. Who knows wtf Jones was doing for 3 years.
 
I mean, Jones sat of his own free will, for 3 years. During his prime. Yeah.

I don’t like jones and have argued his career and resume is extremely overrated for a long time now but francis wasnt even champ until about a year into jones’ 3 year hiatus. After that jones and the ufc couldn’t agree on pay and so a interim title was made between Lewis and gane cause ngannou wasn’t interesting in fighting when they wanted to make the gane fight, then obviously he has to fight gane, then hes injured so he doesn’t fight for however long, then jones and the UFC come to an agreement but ngannou wants more money that they won’t pay him so leaves

there are many details of his career to criticise, the wins over declining fighters, middleweights, eyepokes, steroids, robberies, preferential treatment but he was willing to sign the contract and ngannou wasn’t
