Who believes Moreno will win the rematch?

not sure he wins the rematch but moreno will be a much better fighter because of this experience. he needs to have a more dominant ground game next time than what he had shown.

i wasn't a moreno fan before but i think i kinda am now. awed by his durability and tenacity.

i dont think Moreno will be the same after that beatin he took

He'll be fine. It wasn't that much of a beating at all really, just a good solid fight.

And he's Mexican, seems like MMA fans have a lot to learn about Mexican fighters :D

Anything is possible with this kid but I still give Fig the edge.

now it is the batlle of the coaches,
they have 25 minutes to scrutinize and come up with a great gameplan

intriguing rematch

Yep, fig is a beast but his hands low style is dangerous
He has very good head movement.

... but

He really isn’t that fast. Especially for
A) Flyweight
B) Hands down

and one of the big reason some MMA fighters, usually high level strikers, use hands down style, is because it allows for underhooks to stuff TDs, but Fig still got taken down repeatedly by Moreno.

Fig is a great fighter, but definitely not unbeatable and I think that 5 rounder exposed a few tendencies that a good coach/team could use to prepare a game plan.

For example, Fig was leaning back to evade strikes. This is generally considered a bad idea, particularly if you do it often, which fig does. The issue is that while you can lean back to evade 1 or 2 punches, if the opponent throws a combo and you are already leaning back, you can’t lean further back, so you run out of room and get caught, also it is difficult to move laterally or slip once leaning back.

A perfect example is Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman. Silva had his hands down, Weidman threw a jab, Silva leaned back to avoid. Using slick side to side head movement Anderson evaded a few more but eventually ran out of space and Chris broke from a right left right left pattern and Silva having already committed to leaning back, had nowhere to go and got KTFO... badly.

If I were Moreno’s coach I would drill the shit out of a boxing technique called “shifting” which involves temporarily shifting into a southpaw stance to continue a combo while stepping forward against an opponent who is moving back.

Buster Douglas did this when he KOed Mike Tyson, he dazed Mike with an uppercut, followed with left hook, right cross, then as Mike stepped back, Buster stepped forward and hit Mike with a left cross from southpaw stance (because Buster stepped into southpaw)

TJ Dillashaw does this very well.
Cub Swanson also uses this idea.

Moreno could pull it off. It will also open up the shot to a single leg TD. And Figgy doesn’t seem to strike that well while moving backwards so it seems to me to be a relatively safe strategy and puts Fig on his back foot where he doesn’t want to be.

Moreno showed he can take all Figgy has, he is not as powerful but he s faster and has better overall boxing I think: His composure and combinations were better and took down Figgy at will.

I believe that if he comes with a better gameplan , sticks to range striking and keeps away from the power shots he has a very good chance of putting Figgy away.

Many will shit on me bc Fig had Brandon covering up and backing off at times, but I believe Brandon was much much closer to putting his opponent away. Fig was on very shaky legs in that round (think it was the 3d), but he managed to recover.

Whoever wins, superexcited for the rematch!

I would disagree. I personally think that Moreno lost that fight. Joe rogan and DC have made everyone think that Moreno hurt Fig when he just fell over as he was coming forward. Watch it again without commentary. Rogan starts screaming out he is rocked when Fig is moving forward and using head movement. Rogan was wrong, but we have an advantage with the tv view over them.

Every shot that Moreno was landing was getting walked through as Fig continued to pressure forward. There were some great combos thrown but every single one was proceed ed with a big strike from Fig or with Moreno backing away from a big counter.

Without the point deduction Fig won that fight, but Moreno was definitely game. He took some massive shots. It;s clear Moreno isn't going to be put to sleep easily. Fig adjusts by putting a bit less power into his shots and he wins this fight comfortably. He already has the power advantage and doesn't need to load up like he was.

It was a great fight though.

And Moreno could have won if he didn't get hulk kicked in the balls and Fig gets a rest.

Couldn't have been that bad if he didn't even take the full 5 minutes. He had more time if he needed it, didn't take it... and Fig got the point taken away.

Don't think he as enough pop in his punches to get it done; however:

If he mixes it up and game plans properly he could win it (He did have success with the kicks in regards to hurting Fig). Survive the first 2 rounds - then push the pace (kinda like a diaz type of fight - 50-60% power on your shots but in combinations, throw in some takedowns to secure rounds). Save power shots for the legs and body (kicks).

If Moreno would have stayed in Fig's face and not given him long breaks, especially from round 3 on, he would have won. Think of Fig as a higher output Romero; it is quite apparent he needs long breaks in action, and needs people to fight at the pace he dictates. There were periods where no punches were thrown for 30+ seconds. After those breaks, Fig has recovered and can throw power shots with his fast twitch muscle build.

Once he's already a bit tire, stay in his face, don't give him a break. He'll lose his power fast. Moreno could win this with a better game plan, but said game plan also increases the risk he will be KOd

It's a pick em fight. Too difficult to call.

If you held a gun to my balls, I'd take Fig.
