Who became champion in a more spectacular fashion? Silva over Franklin or Jones over Shogun?

No one really knew who Anderson was, and that mental image of Franklin’s busted nose resting on his cheek was ghastly. I really can’t think of a more emphatic finish to usher in the reign of a new champ.

Anderson. Shogun was sort of past his prime at that point and Anderson was an unknown who just demolished Franklin in his prime.

Honestly both of them were phenomal performances in their own ways but I tend to lean towards Jon Jones because he was so young and was just 3 years into mma as a pro and he DOMINATED Shogun from start to finish.

Both awesome, but gotta go with Anderson. Everyone knew Jones was uber talented and coming for the belt, and that Shogun may have been a bit past his prime. It was shocking, but a lot of us picked Jones pretty confidently.

Silva destroying Franklin was crazy. I knew Silva was dangerous after what he did to Leben, but I didn't think there was a chance he could just run through Franklin like he did.

Jones dominated Shogun in every aspect, from the very first second of the fight - the audacious jumping knee which stunned Shogun and set the tone for the beatdown to follow.

Silva dominated with his clinch and Rich simply wasn't able to deal with it. More of a one-dimensional domination as opposed to the variety of Jones's virtuoso performance.

An actual good topic that doesn't have an obvious answer.

I want to say Silva but that image of Jones dropping a lifeless machida to the ground was pretty epic.

I don't place much importance on Jones over Shogun.

Shogun was coming off surgery and took the fight on short notice.

Jones literally looked 2 weight classes bigger and simply bumrushed and overwhelmed -in such ugly fashion, a Shogun who shouldn't have been fighting. Involved little skill. I wasn't impressed.

The fact Jones never TKOd another LHW again after Shogun, says a lot about how that result was because of Shogun not being at his best.

THE undisputed MOST impressive and dominant title win in UFC history is without doubt, Conor moving up a weight class and doing what he did to an all time great LW Alvarez in his prime

Anderson and Jones never dominated a prime elite opponent like that, let alone the champion above them

Conor is the true greatest talent - and most skilled tactician MMA has ever seen

I'm gonna say Silva, though, Jones' coverall run to actually get the belt was more emphatic.

Anderson had his losses in pride. When he came over people were questioning how legit he was because of a few fights over there.

Silva beat the shit of Franklin lol. Took his soul.

Jones was younger, faster, much bigger, (very likely) stronger with a healthy reach advantage over Shogun. His win wasn't that much of a surprise.

Silva put an epic beating on Franklin, and I don't think anyone could've predicted it would be so one-sided.

Both performances were legendary.
But to me Anderson dismantled a champion in his prime in a devastating fashion.

Edit:
as much as I despise his public persona, the way in which Connor won the FW belt was nothing short of spectacular.

Definitely Silva over Franklin. People had time to see Jones he had multiple fights.

Silva destroyed Leben and immediately got Franklin. Not to mention the size difference between Shogun and Jones and how Franklin/Silva ended

This is false.

Jones had been wrestling his whole life. Wrestling is his greatest weapon in MMA

90% of Shogun vs Jones took place on the ground. Of course Jones the much bigger guy used his size to hold down, overwhelm and batter Shogun on the ground. Wasn't that impressive

On the feet Shogun actually landed the better punches. Jones only had the eye pokes and kicks

Jones has always had shitty boxing. It was masked by the fact he was always fighting much smaller guys who weren't good boxers or had good footwork.

I actually think a Shogun vs Jones rematch would be a lot more interesting now since Shogun has dramatically improved his boxing, footwork and TDD in recent times

A real true flawless virtuoso title win performance in every aspect of MMA was Conor over Alvarez. Conor displayed actual REAL SKILL and fight IQ, unlike size bully brute strength Jones

People on here are in denial about “knowing Jones would beat Shogun”. I remember Shogun leading the sherdog poll and Shogun nut huggers would say dumb shit like “Shogun will KO this kid, snap those chicken legs, etc.”

Why did you need to bring Conor into the thread? It literally had nothing to do with. Are Conor fans that insecure?

Even Conor beating Alvarez pales in comparison to Silva beating the shit out of Franklin.
