Media Whittaker is considering a move to 205

Has it though? I mean yeah the Khamzat loss was devastating but if he's still in peak condition i think he can do some shit at MW still. Sounds like Caio is next. I think Rob can win that.

I struggle a lot to see Whittaker coming back and getting the title after losing to the top 3 guys, especially at his age. He isn't getting younger. Did whittaker mention the caio fight? that's a good fight. Maybe if he loses that, go to LHW and end his career.

"Im playing with the idea of going up to light heavyweight. Im a big dude, much bigger than people think"

Good idea or no?

Translation: I don't feel like dieting anymore, but still want to get paid to fight.

He did a bit, but is taking time off and said he'll return in June
Wants to work on altering his style a bit

I said it earlier, but Whittaker and Izzy are now in positions where they have to defend their rank against the newer guys(Caio and Imavov)
IMO Imavov is the easier guy of the two and Izzy got him, I favor Izzy winning that

So unless Caio wants to fight soon, he could wait for that big Whittaker fight on a PPV. I think Caio beats him at this stage however, I'd also favor Caio against Izzy as well

Rob held his own against Romero who was as strong as any LHW.

So like a normal MW fighter then? All the top MWs walk around at that weight. Dricus (222), Strickland (217), Adesanya (215). Khamzat (217)
It would be interesting to see his size in the cage or in camp if he ever moves to 205, they would cut less if they fight at 205lbs and the in-camp weight would be different, but LHW´s fight at the very least at 220lbs, thats heavier than them on a sort of regular day, height and reach is getting crazy in LHW too, Jones isnt the only tall one anymore.

People say LHW sucks (which is true) but both Weidman and Rockhold got absolutely wrecked when they moved up. Cannonier was a mid tier guy at 205 too.

Size matters

yeah but those 2 guys, Weidman and Rockhold depended a lot on their size. Weidman for bullying into clinch and being able to threaten with TDs, and Rockhold for being able to attack while keeping his glass chin out of the danger zone. at LHW they didn't have the size advantage and got dumped on because nobody respected their power. Cannonier is similar, he's a power fighter. Whittaker COULD do better because he's a speed fighter and theoretically he should be much faster at LHW compared to the big LHWs.

Whittaker will not stick around for money fights so this is probably his way of retiring.
Give it one last go against the odds at a higher weight so he can retire without questioning it later.

That just means he’s getting lazy.

He’s going to get destroyed at 205, but he doesn’t have anything to lose at this point. He’s fought everyone at 185 already.

no....... Rob you have small frame but i would advice you to go down and fight belal

He’s DONE at middleweight- what else is he going to do to earn a paycheck?
He can’t cut to welterweight
He’s got a lot of miles on him
He can get knocked out a couple times and ride off into the sunset

I don't know what to think of that move. I feel like Rob is in a transition phase of his career from contender to gatekeeper and 205 might not be a good place to try and gatekeep. Even with his skillset.

I dont think its a very good idea.
He ll be undersized and he doesn't have devastating KO power nor unnatural strength
But what do I know

People are forgetting Whittaker is in all likely a Top 10 MMA striker of all time at his peak

He's slowed down a bit but current Whittaker is still a Top 3 LHW, I love Jiri and give him more credit than those here but Whittaker would smoke him, he's far too better a striker and he would embarrass Hill

Honestly Whittaker's only real threats at 205 are Pereira and maybe Ankalaev (although I slightly favor Rob here)

I'm not opposed to it, I mean his last loss was a fluke jaw injury to Khamzat who everyone claiming is the uncrowned champ, but Whittaker only deserves money/title fights at this point

Needs to go back to 170.. him vs Usman, him vs Belal, him vs Brady. He's closer in size to them, then Alex, Ankalaev and other current top 205ers.

Yeah the last thing i wanna do is question a fighter, but he doesn't even look like a big MW. Jiri, Hill and Khalil would dwarf him, and they looked undersized vs Pereira lol.

Just stay at 185 imo. He's always like 1 or 2 fights away from a titleshot anyways
Whitaker beats Hill and Kiri Potan beats him
