Whittaker can win if he wrestlef---s Izzy

terrible take and i dont know why people keep saying this shit just cause jan wrestled him in a higher weightclass. ever since that fight its been a bunch of casuals saying JUZZ WESTLE IZZY AND ITS OVUR.

whittaker isnt much of an offensive wrestler despite his backround and he isnt gonna wrestle him, or if he DOES try i dont think itll go well. do people just not watch whittaker? he doesnt wrestle like that.

and whittaker does have a chance to outpoint or finish him if he fights smart and doesnt fight like a psycho like last time.

Yeahp. Do it early. Wear on Israel. Beat him up in champ rounds. Done deal

robert needs to bull rush and throw the overhand right like a maniac
He might get knocked out again but I think the way he fought in the first fight is the only way to get past the reach and defense of Izzy. Rushing in, keep the hands up, head down and throw straight punches down the middle.

3 Tds with 60% accuracy and 7 minutes of control.
That's not wrestle fucking imo

That's wrestle fucking (Pettis vs Dos Anjos)
9 of 10 Td
90%
14:42 ctrl
the 60% and 7 minutes was enough to win

He absolutely can out strike him if establishes the threat of the takedown. We've seen lesser strikers get beat on the feet by wrestlers many times
All depends if Rob implemenets it

well shit looked to me like he tried to wrestlefuck him! Izzy just a little too good with the defensive wrestling but Rob had the right idea

Nah.

He needs to mix it up better and use his right hand.

Being predictable doesn't work with Adesanya.

Robs grappling is overrated. He has no control.

There needs to be a disambiguation.

Wrestling != Takedowns

To be fair, it's not merely people on Sherdog who don't seem to have this figured out. It even took Robert Whittaker himself until the 5th round to figure this out. Wrestling is not takedowns. Wrestling is open clinch engagements, wall clinch engagements, it's neutral positions and scrambles, AND ALSO takedowns and takedown defense.

Rob won the 5th round by wrestling. Not by taking Izzy down. I think he got him down briefly once. But the important thing was that he pushed him up against the cage. He controlled him. When Izzy is pinned to the cage he's not throwing punches. He's not throwing kicks. Rob is scoring with knees to the thigh. Foot stomps. He's scoring with his positional control. Izzy is using a lot of energy to try to get Rob off of him. That's how you win with wrestling, in this scenario.

Taking Izzy down doesn't do much because he has extremely long arms. For a much shorter man with a much shorter wingspan, it's hard to lace the arm that Izzy will use to post. So Izzy will always be able to stand up. Therefore, any attempts to take him down are a waste of time an energy. Instead, if Rob did what he did in round 5, but over 5 rounds, he wins a UD. Hold Izzy against the fence, knee his thighs, stomp his feet, force him to battle you for position. Instead, Rob was tunnel visioned the whole time on getting takedowns, holding him down, which are impractical, and when he didn't get the takedowns he just went back to being picked apart from range. Takedowns are not important. Wrestling is important. And sometimes, wrestling is ugly Usman/Masvidal 1 type engagements. But it's how you gotta win sometimes.
