@dontsnitch

Interesting article on the consequences of a post-christian society.

The Religious Right is being replaced with the Alt-Right. And that’s not a good thing

The secular progressive movement has done incalculable cultural damage across the West, and Christians cannot be blamed for their relief that the backlash against the social engineering and war on the family seems to be finally here. But conservatism has not survived the populist uprisings unscathed, either, and eagerness to ally ourselves with anyone willing to do battle against the Left could destroy conservatism where the Left failed. The ideology of the alt-right is poisonous, and a post-Christian conservatism that desperately needs Christianity again is now vulnerable to hijacking by new ideologues intent on creating a culture that is not only post-Christian, but anti-Christian.

-Jonathon Van Muren (written March 31st, 2017)

Definitely interesting, I'll have to think about this some more. Part of the problem is this oppressive two party system that doesn't encourage centrists to thrive. I'd also note that things have shifted left, so Christians are forced to choose the lesser of two evils, much like everyone else I suppose. There was a time when even Democrats were against gay marriage, and now the conversation is if little jimmy should cut his balls off. We've come a long way.

I'm casting my lot with Andrew Scheer, he's somewhere in between Trump and Trudeau. I'm still hopeful.

This part highlights things nicely:

This encapsulates the radicalization of the two fringes. The Civil Rights Movement of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian movement, flowing out of the churches and relying on specifically Christian rhetoric. Black Lives Matter, which lists the “destruction of the nuclear family” as one of its goals, is not a social reform movement but a destructive revolutionary movement. Like the alt-right, they are disinterested in engagement and compromise, and have extricated themselves from a Christian framework and rejected the Christian values that drove much of the battle against segregation. The fringes of both the Right and the Left have rejected all notion of authority, and the ever-shrinking center enables these movements at their peril.

Admittedly, it's an isolated incident and an extreme case example, however, the suffering this nation has gone thru highlights the need for treatment AND awareness. Heres a person with a history of mental illness(according to his high school teacher he was on anti-psychotic medication at one timd) and violence (threatened his own mother with a knife and ended up in juvenile detention), yet most people are too busy being partisan to even acknowledge that his illness was more than likely the underlying culprit of his rampage.

This tragic event can put forth a broader argument for the need of a universal healthcare system to address the issue of mental illness in America and also just as important - the public awareness of mental illness (which seems to be lacking in the WR).

Anyone who lives in a major city has seen the effects of mental illness thru the homeless population and the consquences their untreated illness can have on an area with crime and drugs. We can't pretend that the "individual choices" of these people who suffer from mental illness do not have societal impact.

Were you there? You are pretending to know something you don't. I saw video of other things happening.
I wasn't there but from everything I read up on and all the videos I saw the violence was started by those far right members who were protesting.

He didn't use his car to hurt people in the street, you fucking moron. He used it to kill.

So she wasn't hurt?

Think about what you said, dunce.

Also, was he targeting white people?

They could enact a law about it, that if you commit violence at a political rally it comes with a different penalty than normal crimes.

I would also like to see them enact laws, that if paid protesters take part in property damage, the financial backers should be held liable for the damages.

"As well."

So the violence is partially to blame on them, is what you are saying?

There were agitators on the left yes, I never said there weren't. You brought up the left bringing weapons, the right brought a fuck ton more and started the actual violence.

Again, this is different from that stupid ass anti Milo riot at Berkeley. The side doing the majority of the attacking and the side that murdered someone were white supremacists.

Are you a white supremacist? Honest question.

No.. I'm an intellectually honest Independant that has voted D wayyy more than R in my life.

The violence was started Friday night when Alt-Righters encircled a bunch of protesters sitting at a statue and proceeded to attack them with their tiki torches. Also a good deal of those Alt-Right members who showed up Friday did so with semi-automatic weapons, knives and hand guns

I'm pretty sure those guys were militia-men, not the alt-right.

She is dead, you fucking dipshit.

Who gives a fuck what color he was targeting. He was trying to kill. Moron.

I always knew Trump was intellectually dishonest with his proclaimed intelligence. Easiest public task of his entire presidency was what he did yesterday. An today he had to torpedo it like he's running a campaign. Its absolutely mind-blowing how frivolous his mind works.

lol what do you think you're trying to do by asking if he was targeting white people? Are you trying to say he's not a white supremacist since he killed a white woman? That doesn't mean he's not, that just means he's bad at it.

He doesn't look too fucking bright lol.

"If you put any blame on the people who came to fight with weapons who did not have a permit to be there for the fights that happened, you must be a white supremacist."

Of course he doesn't.

The "Unite The Right" travesty really changed my mind. I am embarrassed to admit that I have been talking a lot about identity politics and made many posts talking about white nationalism and defending the alt-right. I got so caught up in being anti-left that I turned a blind eye to the evils festering on the right. I am guilty of dragging the War Room discourse into the swamp.

After the events of Unite the Right I have decided that I am finished with talking about white nationalism and I want nothing to do with the alt-right. I am completely embracing King's dream regarding content of character over skin color and condemning all forms of identity politics. I also want to work towards uniting instead of dividing. This Left vs. Right nonsense is blinding all of us to the truth. It is time to take a new direction.

Did anyone else change their minds after the Unite The Right event?

He just told the fkn truth. Nothing else.

They weren't all nazis. Sorry about the truth.

The side that showed up with weapons to fight is partially responsible for the fighting. Sorry about the truth.

Sorry you can't recognize truth any more because your brain has replaced truth with partisan politics. You are right where they want you.
