Social White House accused of US flag code violation

Okay that's pretty disrespectful to Americans.( I say this as a Canadian who's PM has probably done way worse. ) . Your American. Not a gay American, not a straight American. The flag represents the 1 thing you all have in common. People didn't fight and die for lgbtq. Or for any subgroup for that matter. They died for their families, and the future of a bunch of people they'll never know.

It's petty, but shouldn't go unnoticed. All you other minorities out there...just know that you're not good enough for that.

§10. Modification of rules and customs by President

Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation.

- the president, as commander in chief, can modify the rules when he/she wants to.

i would legitimately not be surprised if he flew the rainbow flag on top of the american flag

Meanwhile GOPs frontrunner is federally indicted on 37 counts...

You could almost smell the desperation

I refer you to the flag code to figure that out.
yea, but that is commonly misinterpreted

Unless an article of clothing is made from an actual United States flag, there is NO breach of flag etiquette whatsoever.

Fake news:

§8. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

  1. The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
  2. The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
  3. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
  4. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
  5. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
  6. The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
  7. The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
  8. The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
  9. The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
  10. No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
  11. The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning

Pretty clear on commercializing of the flag.

Secularism isn't just for religion anymore. Singling out any one immutable characteristic is colouring outside the lines as far as I'm concerned. For some it indicates special status while for others it triggers target fixation. We'll never reach true equality via preferential treatment.

Secularism is fine. Spirituality and religion should be an internal situation. To get mad at anything externally is counterproductive to true spiritualism, imo.

No disagreement here. I've just been sort of letting the idea of monetary secularism peculate in the back of my mind. Kind of leading me down the road to thinking that a government ruling over a pluralistic society shouldn't show favouritism to anything, but just manage the country. No room for ideology or $$ to curry favor. Just stick to governing.

The idea definitely isn't hashed out or without fault, not by a long shot, but there's something there. Special dispensation inevitably creates conflict.
