As far as exciting fights and household names?

Below is a listing of events per year (pulled from Wikipeida) My vote goes to 2011...huge amount of household names still in their "primes" putting on great fights (Lesner, Jones, Shogun, Henderson, Machida, GSP). 2011 also featured Shogun vs Henderson which I think is one of the best fights of all time.

  • 1993 - 1
  • 1994 - 3
  • 1995 - 4
  • 1996 - 5
  • 1997 - 5
  • 1998 - 3
  • 1999 - 6
  • 2000 - 6
  • 2001 - 5
  • 2002 - 7
  • 2003 - 5
  • 2004 - 5
  • 2005 - 10
  • 2006 - 18
  • 2007 - 19
  • 2008 - 20
  • 2009 - 20
  • 2010 - 24
  • 2011 - 27
  • 2012 - 31
  • 2013 - 33
  • 2014 - 46
  • 2015 - 41
  • 2016 - 6 (as of UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Bisping)

2008 for me. The year GSP avenged his last loss and never looked back!

1993. When it all started, and helped put MMA on the map and shape it into the SPORT it is today.
Without UFC 1 there'd be NO UFC, so it's gotta be the most important right?

2006, 2008, 2009 and 2013 were my favourites. 2006 had prime chuck, GSP takes out two former champs and the arrival of Anderson Silva.

2007

Pride folding was the best thing that ever happened to the UFC. They mopped up the talent and never looked back.

Agree that it was definitely important. I remember my father bringing home the VHS and claiming it was "illegal" at the time lol. But back in 93 MMA was still a fragile concept, and I doubt anyone back then really knew any of the fighters (aside from those really into Karate and kickboxing).

Hahaha right? illegal... That's how we all saw it first, that UFC 1 VHS tape and I knew Harold Howard... used to kick it with Harold Howard man, coke is one hell of a drug man!

I got it on ppv not tape...Oh you were saying we all saw it as illegal nevermind

2011 is my favourite year,had some of the best fights ever:Edgar/Maynard 2 & 3,Shogun/Hendo 1 and Alvarez/Chandler 1 on the same night,Diaz/Daley etc.
Then will come 2009,2010 and 2013.
2015 was also very good, but my favourite period will be 2006-2011 in the UFC.

Man, I am so glad me and my friends somehow landed on the channel broadcasting UFC 1.

We thought it was so cool that it was "no rules" and, on first fight we watched, the sumo dude got his tooth knocked out by a vicious kick.

UFC 1 all the way.

Cant call a year out. But certainly the earlier days when it was still 'new' and there were less cards so bigger matchups seemed to happen on cards more often.

I like the sport just as much these days and its become a lot more legit, but theres something special about those earlier years when it was still a new thing

07.
All the crazy upsets and defeating Pride.

Whatever year UFC 100 was. We had GSP, Lesnar, Henderson KO'ing Bisping, we had Anderson stopping Forrest in his Matrix life performance, we had Couture v. Nog, Penn's finish of Sanchez, Jones's only loss, the beginning and end of the Machida era, a super fight in St. Pierre v. Penn 2 and of course Shogun won a fight that year.

2015/2016. Even with the injuries, this is a fucking ridiculous time for MMA right now.Glory and K1 on the fight pass,Ultimate Fighting Conor...womans div spitting hot fire at the top 3. Yes. I am happy. Just get rid o' reebok and get Khabib back in there, and im straight.

Can't swear the single best year, but a 5 year span, my vote goes to 2006-2011.

2011 had better overall top matchups, but IMO, 2010 provided the most active combination of pitting the top 10-15 of each WC against each other which is what I most look for. Forced to pick one, 2010.

And yes, getting Khabib back and Reebok out are mutually inclusive, and all will be forced to wear the papakha during fight week.UFC shuts down during Ramadan,
