Darren Till?
Sean O'Malley?
Brian Ortega?
Paulo Costa?
Khabib Nurmagomedov
Mackenzie Dern?
Darren Till is a near-perfect 16-0-1 right now, but his best win is Donald Cerrone, and he has a few unanswered questions. To my knowledge, he hasn't faced any high level wrestlers yet. Also, he has a huge test coming up in his fight with Stephen Thompson, who is considered by some to be the best striker in the UFC.
Sean O'Malley is 10-0. He has lots of charisma, but he hasn't fought against anyone even close to the top 10, and he came close to losing his last fight by injury. On the other hand, the UFC seems content to build him up slowly, so he may not be facing an legit killers in his next couple fights.
Out of everyone on the list, Brian Ortega has arguably beaten the most dangerous opponent in Frankie Edgar. While he's shown very little in the way of weaknesses, he's reached the top of the division, and whoever he fights next, whether it be Holloway for the title or another contender, it's going to be a dangerous fight.
Paulo "Borrachinha" Costa, 11-0, has destroyed everyone who's entered the cage with him. Eleven fights and eleven finishes. Nobody's even been able to make it to the third round. He also beat a former champ in Johny Hendricks. Costa hasn't shown any glaring weaknesses thus far, but with all his fights ending early, his cardio is still a big unanswered question--especially in a 5-round fight. His next opponent is the high inconsistent Uriah Hall.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, 26-0, has the best resume by far of anyone on the list. However, he also sits atop an absolute shark tank as the lightweight champ. His wins over the likes of Barboza and RDA showed his skill, but fighters like Ferguson, Lee, and even Poirier present entirely different problems. He's unlikely to get any easy fights in the near future.
Mackenzie Dern is 6-0, and is at the same time least well-rounded fighter and the most well-rounded fighter on the list (if you get my drift). So far her best win is...Ashley Yoder. Her next opponent, Amanda Cooper, seems to be hand picked for her to run over.
