which martial arts does conor mcgregor do exactly?

Great response by "Paddy Da pikey".

Indeed, Conor started off by training in Boxing and western Kickboxing, but eventually added many weapons to his game, including heavy influences of Goju-Ryu Karate, (Gunnar Nelson, skilled in BJJ and Goju Ryu has trained with Conor for years) Shotokan and Capoiera. And of course, John Kavanaugh's Jiu Jitsu teachings and skills.

His footwork (and even the body frame) reminds me a lot of Bruce Lee. His mindset and focus on movement, being fluid and efficient is again, very very similar to Bruce as well; Bruce was heavily influenced by a lot of Taoist Tai'Chi Kungfu philosophy (the concept of "Steel wrapped in Cotton.")

He understands the importance of always being open to all martial arts, whether traditional or modern. There's always something new to learn.

This article references an interview from Bloody Elbow, but in short, Conor states he started boxing, kickboxing, then added Karate, TKD and uses Capoeira for it's unique "movement".

He works on wrestling and BJJ primarily for his grappling.

Interestingly, he also mentions how he sits and watches youtube videos etc all night, looking at different techniques, styles etc and picking out things that he thinks would work for him.

Having lived in Scotland/Ireland and having a lot of UK friends, I was excited about him early on in his career and have enjoyed watching him develop. His over the top stuff is a bit annoying now, but I love his approach to learning and MMA.

He fights like Machida in absolute aggressive beast spinning mode. His fighting stance reminds me a lot of shotokan karate.

Strong aikido base where his opponents weight are redistributed to his left fist.

That's the influence of Sensei Seagal. If you watch the gif below you will recognize a lot of McGregor's movements:

hey peeps first thread here,
so obviously its mix martial arts but which martial arts does conor mcgregor do?

some fighters specialise in certain martial arts like bjj or muay thai etc,
so i'm wondering what does mcgregor specialise in?

been watching ufc for years and normally its quiet clear what martial arts the fighters specialise in but im not sure when it comes to conor mcgregor,
his boxing seems really good especially with him being a southpaw...
I know for a fact he is boxing based and has trained extensive with a TKD expert. Other than a bjj coach added in the mix, I have no idea.

In the old days in Chechnya they would have beheaded some American clowning on their terpsichorean traditions. Putin's made them soft.

Clowning? He's taking their traditions to more profound depths. Don't be discouraged. You have to watch for a while, perhaps even meditate on his movements, before you truly understand.

He trains in SAFTA, its great martial arts, everybody knows their parts.
