Guardians and it's not even that close.

I do like the first Avengers movie, but Guardiians is probably my favorite movie.

GotG by far. It's one of the best if not the best to come out of Marvel Studios.

Guardians. Infinity War and the end of Endgame were cool but GOTG was consistently entertaining

First Avengers film was a very important step in the MCU but I don’t think it holds up particularly well on the rewatch. I’d place it in the good not great category. There are some
really good scenes and it’s great seeing all those remarkably well-cast characters come together but I don’t think it’s one of the top tier movies in that MCU run.

Guardians, on the other hand, is consistently entertaining and one of the best MCU films. I think that once you get past Iron Man 3, you have a lot of the best MCU films in relatively quick succession- Winter Soldier, Guardians, Ragnarok, Civil War, Infinity War. For me, Doctor Strange, also in that run, is quite good. Sort of underrated. I find it to be one of the better origin story MCU films.

Basically, I not only think Guardians is better than 2012 Avengers, I think the 2014-2018 run is probably peak MCU.

Yep I'd tend to agree, I think the fact it works as a film and isnt a total mess probably led to The Avengers being overrated a bit at the time but a large part of that is down to the groundwork which had been done on the characters before that.

As you say I think it was really 2014 when the MCU hit its peak, when you really got the formula for both the Earth based Avengers and the Cosmc side of the story from Winter Solider and Guardians. Whedon was part of the way there but I feel in retrospect his films have a bit too much "edgy bickering" between the heroes for the sake of it when theres not really much actual drama.

Its a messier film with a weaker villain but actually I find myself rewatching Ultron more, In part I spose because it seems to benefit from inheriting more of the style of Winter Solider and having more real drama to it, does also link into the following films stories a lot more.
