I have a poster with the autographs of every player from the 1990-1991 New Jersey Devils that I got myself after one of their practices. That’s more valuable to me than the original “print” of a picture or gif. But I would never buy an autograph nor would I care about one I didn’t get myself. I don’t seek autographs anymore either.

I still don't understand the appeal or value of NFTs. I have some good autographs though, like a super bowl poster signed by Jerry Rice and a baseball signed by Willie Mays.

The value of NFTs is based on nothing but people SAYING they they have value. In and of themselves, no one would be willing to give anything for them. Like said, things are only worth what someone is willing to pay. There will always be people willing to pay for autographs. Though I personally don’t understand that much either.

I saw a youtube vid where a NFL QB signed the guy's card sent thru the mail. I later saw people post it's an autopen and then saw pics of two cards signed back to back and the autographs looked exactly identical like from an autopen. No size or position variations. Just like a robot signed it.

The only autograph I have is a boxing glove signed by Evander Holyfield that he gave me at a conference. No idea if it would be worth anything.

NFTs and autographs are equal, in that regard.

Sure if you only analyse what you (an individual) might pay for something, what you say is true.

But in terms of resale value to others, in a mostly unknown future market, NFT's are far more risky compared to whatever price has been attached to the autographed item.

Most autographed items, of the type the OP references have searchable histories of the value 'most' people have put on them and thus a good ball park for what you should get in a resale, which helps you determine what you pay. Much like a comic book or hockey or baseball cards. There is some searchable history there which gives a better foundation for holding value.
