Connie tried it and was promptly choked out.

But I think a few fighters could jump 2 weight classes and beat respected fighters outside of their traditional class.

I think DJ could decision Guida.

I think WEC Jose Aldo could have finished Martin Kampmann back in the day.

I'd pick Rockhold dec over Nelson and to finish Struve.

What are some matchups where you think the lighter weight fighter could jump 2 classes and defeat a well respected vet?

Let's get crazy

I think Robbie Lawler would have a small chance.

I'd definitely take him over Shogun at this point.

As far as a fighter with something left, I'd like him against Latifi and Perosh...

While they did fight at 170, Connie realistically fought a guy who weighed the same as him and would naturally cut down to 155. They just agreed not to cut weight.

A real WW fighter would weight 190-200 before cutting. Rory, Robbie, and even Tyronn would be massive compared to Connie. Nate (a natural 155er) fought Rory before and was rag dolled. No amount of progression in skills on Nate's part would have prevented that.

As for who could do it, I think a guy like RDA or Khabib could do it.

Fedor!

He used to fight cartoonly giant men!!

at that time he was a light heavyweight fighter. Just because he stepped down doesn't mean he always was a Middleweight fighter. For an example Just because Machida fights in middleweight doesn't obsolete his history as a Light heavyweight fighter.

Rumble fought for the championship.

frankie edgar.

i could see conner beating 15-20 ranked LW but no way he beats any legitimate ww.

mighty mouse

prime anderson if it were a smaller hw

He started off a MW in SF too before moving up

But he didn't started his career as Middleweight. In Pride the division he used to fight in, Even though they called that middleweight division, was actually Light Heavyweight Division.
