This one.

and why, due to my history with this and seeing all kinds of people struggling with mental health problems.

I give directly to people I know need help. That way I know my money doesn't get wasted or used fraudulently as much as possible.

I have taken homeless folks shopping to get winter clothes, food, haircuts...ect. I paid for a single mom's gas for a while and fixed he car for free (about $300 in parts). I also donate to my church and help with fundraising stuff for church related charities.

IMO, as a Christian, I think the best way to be charitable is directly to people in your community. You will make the biggest impact this way.

@Takes Two To Tango - please find out the salaries of the entire "Mental Health Board members" and Understand...ALL Of Their Expenses PLUS their Salaries are paid and can take 89 cents of your donated dollar before ANY help goes to the needy.

Do they need a new Benz to drive for their "job" ?

No problem, they deemed that purchase to be a necessary expense - along with insurance, registration, gas, etc.

Wait, those rims/tires aren't adequate for "the charity". No sweat, the board understands and approves all needed expenses.

Ding Ding Ding !

TV ads for Any "Charities" are the legalized theft of 89 cents out of every dollar going to "administrative costs."

Look at salaries of "board members" (and crying POS actors) with salaries reaching a half million $ and more (Redd Kross, A s Pee See A). Those scumbags can consistently bill 1st class travel, Chef cooked meals and booze from room service and all charges for 5 star hotels.

THEY MUST BE paid before the 11 cents of Your Dollar goes toward your intended donations.

Find and help those that need it in your community - they get ALL of your donation.

Exactly. The most well known companies waste most of what you give and pay high salaries to their execs. I mean, if you donate to them the intention is good but if you want your money to have the biggest possible effect then give directly to people who need it.

I donate to a local animal hospital and dog shelter that does amazing work, I know that first hand because I've also been a client of theirs so I know how much they really care about animals and helping them so I love to help their efforts when I can

Oh ok thank you for the insight, most appreciated.

Mental health is a real struggle but it has also become something that everyone seems to be dealing with but how many people are truly dealing with mental health issues and how many are just using it as an excuse for poor performance, behavior, or overall actions. it is the new "it" thing and many claim mental health issues but have never actually dealt with them. Mental health is being pushed at everyone and humans love to mimic or accept whatever is pushed at them.

I donate to a local animal shelter / low cost veterinary clinic. I make cash donations and I also donate food and treats along with towels and blankets from time to time annually

That's a fair opinion. It's human nature to exploit people vulnerabilities, it happens to all of us. I understand your concern yes, people have abused the system and claim they are mentally ill, when they really not. But that can go with anything really. However, you can't brush a whole group of people and say they may not be mentally ill.

But I can always donate to the homeless, where mental illness is prevalent.

Totally agree. A lot of people have ZERO coping skills and just fold like a piece of paper every time life throws a curve ball. Seen it a million times.
