Tossup between Bale and Dafoe but picked the latter as he brings more intensity, imo.

Bale
Oldman
Norton
Day-Lewis

Christian Bale
Edward Norton
Gary Oldman
DDL

No order: Bale, Hardy, Lewis, Oldman.

Viggo deserves to be in that mix too.

I take it your fun to hang around with.

What happened to versatile actors between 1930 and 1990? Inspector Clouseau was the only one?

We all thought the great Lon Chaney was the last great one 30 years ago.

Bale
Oldman
Norton
Phoenix

Honorable mention to Tom Hardy. Just couldn’t put him above these guys.

You have guys like Olivier, Brando, De Niro to name a few. But guys now or around the past 30-40 years are more versatile imo. I think because the influence of DDL and Gary Oldman.

Btw I have Peter Sellers up there as well. He's pre 1990.

It has got to be Willem Dafoe. He has done it all. From the classiest art movies to the corniest superhero movies. From comedy to horror and everything in between. We've seen him as the leading man, the villain, the winner, the loser, the side character.

Last year, he did Aquaman and The Lighthouse.

In another year, he did The English Patient and Speed 2: Cruise Control.

What other actor pulls off such massive pivots on the regular?

American Psycho (2000)

Now that's a strong argument.

Are you having a laugh about Pacino?
Pacino is better than the other three on that list.
