Where winds meet

Everything I'm hearing about this sounds really good, like they crammed numerous genres into it and made it work.

I don't know anything about the story/purpose, whats that like?

I remember you talking that game up. I think I downloaded it but never played it.

Before Genshin came out (I believe) I got into a similar game called Star Rail. Its a TB JRPG-like gacha. The graphics/art style is gorgeous, and I liked the world building. I put at least a couple of hundred hours into it and never felt the need to buy anything, but like you I did more for support.

Hell I just bought that 2B/Nier Automata DLC for Stellar Blade to support them. The outfit mods help too lol. I love that it ads Nier music. What a fantastic game!

I love JRPG's and a good grind, but without a beginning, middle, and end for tje story, I just lost interest. They have a lot of different writers, and were inconsistent, so they didn't help.

How was Genshin's story? Hopefully this game has a good one, with some kind of initial ending before justifying the live service, like the early Diablo games did.
Yea I played star rail for about 60 hours and then zzz for like 30. Mihoyo has a system for all thier games so it just kept getting too repetitive in each new game.

The story for all the games is kind of garbage. They all have a decent premise but that’s about it.

I played for about an hour to see what all the hype is about and I got an incoherent story, a crapton of menus, janky movement and confusing loot. What's the upside here? Or seems like a worse version of Rise of the Ronin.

What's the upside here?

MMORPG market has been in decline for the past 10+ years. Caused in part by developers transitioning to free2play with pay2progress mechanics and genre design stagnation.

This breaks that mold through modernization. By having Soulslike lite combat thats accessible to all player skills, hodgepodge of side content thats present in single player RPG's, lore that appeases anime/weeb gamers and a monetization model that operates in cosmetics.
