It could have all easily been avoided, and I'd also like to know the story behind it. Mexico has some fantastic people and used to be a nice place to live.

It's pretty simple there's a billion dollar illegal industry pipe-lining straight through that border.

North Mexico is a shit hole because American's like to party.

That's not an excuse though; Mexico could easily take military efforts against the Cartels and hunt them all down like vermin.

Yeah, I lived there for a few years and would likely be there now if the escalated drug war didn't make it unsafe. But I was curious as to why the police targeted that exact store. There's a photographer at the top of the video before they even entered, so something was already known.

What years were you down there? How did it compare to Asia?

2001-2002, and regular visits up until 2007 when the drug war got intense. I can only compare with Philippines, but I enjoyed Mexico much more, as I speak some Spanish and I was single so it was always more like vacation. Trying to take care of business, be serious about things, and raise a family in the 3rd world can definitely put a damper on your spirits. For the average single guy, though, Philippines is definitely better.

Logistically speaking I wonder what it would take to just conquer all of central America. I'd assume no one has tried because they're scared of the rest of the world shaking their fingers at them.

Yeah, I'm still in Philippines. Wife is awesome, but I never really adjusted to the culture, so it creates friction. Much like Mexico, you have to learn to just bend over and take it, rather than standing up for yourself. It's not easy to do that for many of us. I think that store owner who was looted in the video was likely trying to stand up for himself also, instead of just playing the extortion game.
