The ufc does the same shows and press conferences for every event. The only one that was out of the ordinary was the aldo/mcrgregor world tour.

It's not who they "choose" unless you think they wanted to go the entirety of 2014 with bad buys and they enjoy losing money for fun.

Its the UFCs job to promote their fighters. Conor and Honda have been getting the vast majority of promotion. DJ keeps winning and dominantly, and is a far better fighter than Conor or Honda combined yet dude gets no promotion.

I don't think they ever actually built them. Some go on an impressive run of wins and fans take notice. It is after a run of wins or good performance outside of the UFC that gets the UFC talking and promoting.

Have you not looked at the internet lately? Conor is EVERYWHERE. His star power shines even greater than it did before his loss. It boogles my mind. But people will continue to follow Conor good or bad. Once you capture the general publics attention unlike Shertards they actually stay interested win or lose.
He gets promotion relative to the amount they think he is going to draw. It's why Universal Pictures is going to spend more money on advertising Fast & Furious than Hail, Cesar. I would also argue DJ is far more promoted than more popular non champion fighters.
