Where do you place KZ on GOAT Asian fighters list?

Pardon my intrusion. Just thought the issue interesting.

From a 2010 article available via archive.org (translated via Google):
"Ben Henderson (26, USA), who won the WEC lightweight championship on the 11th, has Korean tattoos all over his body. 'Strength', 'honor' and 'warrior' are engraved on his arms, shoulders, and sides. You can guess the reason by looking at his face. Henderson is a mixed-race fighter born to a Korean mother and an American father who served in the USFK."

He was asking about BJ, not Bendo.

But gotta say, Bendo reps Korea incomparably more than BJ ever did or does.

And others

You know, at the end of the day, KZ had a great career. And so did guys like Kawajiri, Uno, Aoki, Fujita, Misaski, Yoshida and Funaki and so on.

It's not always easy to rank people when they aren't significantly above or below others.

We'd probably end up going back and forth, so I just gotta say, at the end of the day, what we can agree on is that they all had a great run in the sport of MMA, a select few who can say that.

Cheers.

Yes, the OG Dong bar, original Dong. I liked them both during their run you could say, wish Akiyama fought more but you know, he got popular and I guess could make easy money, and Dong was a little too old.

Their fights against Melvin are good fights
agreed. they fed the dongbar to the wolves from the get go, i think he held his own with barely any experience.

Gomi's the man, too bad he opened his own gym, which he regretted later.
why did he regret opening his gym? i see him on the socials, it seems like everythings good, but i honestly have no idea. gomis one of my favorite too, his whole pride run was amazing. such a dominant, scary striker.

no I guess I watched his fights through Sherdog fight finders.
.

Are you suggesting that you know better than every single MMA pundit in the planet who rates KZ significantly above Kim?

<{Heymansnicker}>

Like I said, Edgar was a living corpse. Poirier was a green fighter at 23. Are you one of those people who talk up MJ's win over Poirier? I don't think so.

And yes, Dan freaking Ige is probably his best win.

You did enough efforts to downplay KZ's wins yet after dozens and dozens of replies in this thread, you have desperately avoided to rate Kim's.

<209Bitch>

Go ahead, under the same standard you use to rate KZ's.
Or just stop being so biased / purposely obtuse.

It's not always easy to rank people when they aren't significantly above or below others.

It's not always easy.

In the case of Kim/KZ, it's not only easy but painfully easy

Same for Okami, Uno, Kawajiri > Kim

You know or you don't. It's what it is, friend.

You know, KZ had an amazing run. Having followed KZ before his UFC run, since 08 or 09, I guess you could say, if you consider KZ a legend, I had an opportunity to follow the legend pretty closely throughout. the majority of his career.

KZ is a bit of a wierd case in a way that, he's one of those rare prospects that end up being bigger than he actually was or is as a fighter. He's a great fighter no doubt, but if you think about it, he only fought 12 times in the UFC, I mean even the corpse of Gomi fought more inside UFC, and you could argue that KZ's best win is Dan Ige.

Now, I was a big fan of KZ before a lot of KZ fans now, if not the majority of them, around here even first heard of him, in case if I sound critical, but that is really just what it is if you think about it. He does have a win over FW Poirier and another corpse of Edgar, though as washed up as Edgar may have been, he wasn't as far gone as Gomi was.

People have discussed before this plenty, but with the curtain falling on KZ's career, I wonder what Sherbros think about it at the end of it.

You see, there wasn't a great hype behind KZ either entering UFC. He did get ktfo into another orbit by Roop not that long before his UFC transition, nor was he undefeated before that. There was much greater hype behind Doo Ho Choi for example, though obviously there were some hype for KZ, I mean he was a solid, exciting prospect regardless, probably more than there were for Dong Hyun Kim.

So, KZ's fame and popularity was entirely him, not from being helped by cherry picking opponents, nor the UFC hype machine, though obviously they caught on eventually.

He was a hell of a fighter, and he had a hell of a career, but just based on how his career played out, it's just difficult to place the guy near the top, I'd think.

1. Saku
2. Gomi
3. Kid
4. Sakurai - Former WW number 1 in the world.
5. Horiguchi
6. Dong Hyun Kim
7. KZ
8. Fujiita
9. Misaki
10. Yoshida

Very high.he won me money when he 6sec flat lined Marky boy.

damn, sad to see the zombie retiring. he had some good moments last night too, just rushed in and paid the price. WAR KOREAN ZOMBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of the best pure asian fighters to do it in the modern era. a tough as nails fucking fighter, who cut his teeth and ravaged the korean and japanese MMA landscape with the same exact unrelenting style. his wars in DEEP and Sengoku were action packed, back and forth tussles, go watch his loss to masenori kanehara who is fighting on the next rizin card against the ex-champ kleiber. after leaving the zombie pandemic he single handedly started, he then starts his familiar WEC and UFC run that most fans today know him for. he should have that leonard garcia decision reversed. and he came so close to a legit win against pantera. Sad to see him go out like this, but unlike most MMA fighters, at least he made his fucking mark. helped that dana white wore that OG korean zombie shirt. he always brought it, was on the cusp of championship, and gained fans the fucking hard way, by fucking fighting his heart out everytime. do yourselves a favor and watch his sengoku fights at least, you will not be disappointed. WAR KOREAN ZOMBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE FEAST IS NEVER OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TONIGHT WE DINE FOR THE ZOMBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what grinds my gears? Is that the UFC used "Korean Zombie" as the name on the events. Just wrote Jung ffs we know who he is

Loved Stun Gun, but Korean Zombie should easily surpass him on the list IMO.
