Where did "shushing "the crowd come from?

This.
It transcends all sports , why? I've seen it In.the NFL, NBA, Soccer, etc. It's especially annoying in MMA, imo.

Soccer is really were it comes from though, very aggessive crowds often booing the away teams star player who responds if they score.

I always thought its to mock the KTFO'ed opponent.. "SHHH HES SLEEPING!!!" I always found it funny and enjoy it when it happens.
You dont see them doing the "Shhh" when they win a decision or a sub, its only when the opponent gets KTFO'ed...

Lol I must
Be an idiot. I thought they do it to be like “shhh he’s sleeping, don’t wake him up”
It can be for that reason too. I've seen fighters follow it up with a 'naptime' expression (using hands clasped together like a pillow).

It's actually a well known gesture in the gay community.
Doing it means you're down to give someone a blowjob (but you don't want to be too obscene and suck your finger) and people who do not go quiet when one is doing the gesture are interested in getting funky with the man doing the gesture.
Hope I explained it well enough, english is not my third language.

Amanda Nunes popularized it. Johanna does it a lot as well and then the other people who do it are in the same group who are going to shock the world. I guess I'm saying some of these phrases and gestures are used incorrectly by a lot of people. But whatever. They're in the moment.
Amanda did it, but hers was lame. I'd say Conor popularized it in mma. His was kinda lame too tho

It’s called silencing the critics and or crowd. In actual team sports you won’t see a player do it on his home field.

I only seen Amanda nunes do it because she beat Ronda who was the big star and nunes wanted everyone to shush about Ronda cuz she's the new star
yeah as to my understanding it was a now you (her opponent) can stop talking thing

In conclusion, fighters shouldn't be doing it, cuz no one knows who the fuck it's directed at...

I did it once when I was playing pool with a friend when I was drunk, then when I woke up the following day I remembered and I was cringing. Like that is seriously pathetic embarrassing behaviour.
