When I started I used to regularly burn myself out going for badly set up submissions; it was a case of getting so excited I was sort of in a position to finish, I'd never let go (e.g. going for collar chokes without hands being high enough in collar). After a while I got over that and if a submission wasn't on, I'd transition to the next thing.
The problem is that I think I've over-compensated a little and that it's made me impatient. As a result of working on my sweeps and passing recently, I've found myself in mount a lot more and have therefore started working on my mount submissions, namely cross collar chokes and ezekiel chokes.
Watching Roger's matches, it usually takes a while for him to finish these. Are some submissions (e.g. cross collar from mount) just slower to finish and should I learn to be more patient in certain offensive situations?
